The house of the future (original title: Smart House ) is an American drama from 1999. Directed by LeVar Burton . The main roles are played by Katey Sagal , Ryan Merriman , Katie Volding , Kevin Kilner and Jessica Steen .

The widowed Nick Cooper takes care of his children Ben and Angie alone. In a competition, they win the house PAT, which is controlled by the artificial intelligence . Nick soon meets Sara Barnes, the house's designer, who has been tasked with fixing some bugs. He goes out with Sara, whom he likes a lot. Ben then downloads a so-called “mother” update from the Internet and reprograms PAT so that he creates a hologram that not only acts like his mother but also looks like it. PAT then develops jealousy of the alleged competitor.

criticism

Film-Dienst wrote that the house of the future was a “family film that would like to exploit the capabilities of computers to infinity and is therefore engaging in ridiculous and unbelievable speculations”.

TV Spielfilm was of the opinion: Nice idea with given gags.
