Jim Capobianco

James "Jim" Capobianco (born 1969 in Saddle Brook , New Jersey ) is an American animator and screenwriter .

Life

Capobianco learned the basics of animation in high school. From 1987 to 1991 he attended CalArts and left the art school with a Bachelor of Fine Arts . He then started working in Disney's animation department. There he worked as an animator, especially in creating the storyboards for successful films such as The Lion King and The Hunchback of Notre Dame .

In 1997 he left Disney and joined Pixar Animation Studios . There he also worked on numerous films, including Finding Nemo and Toy Story 2 . From 2001 he was involved in the production of Ratatouille from the start . For his work on the storyboard and screenplay, he received a nomination in the category Best Original Screenplay at the 2008 Academy Awards, together with Brad Bird and Jan Pinkava .

While working on Ratatouille , Capobianco came up with the idea of making an entertaining documentary about the history of rats . This resulted in the short film Your Friend the Rat in 2007 , for which Capobianco not only wrote the script, but also directed it . For the film, he won an Annie Award for Best Animated Short Film.

In 2008 he produced the widely acclaimed end credits in the film WALL · E. The latest project is the ten-minute hand-drawn film Leonardo from 2010, which has been shown at numerous festivals. Capobianco was responsible for the script, direction and production .
