Chip and Chap - The Knights of Law (in the original Chip 'n Dale: Rescue Rangers ) is an American animated series by the Walt Disney Company. The main characters include Chip and Chap, who were previously known in Germany as Ahörnchen and Amtnchen .

The series was created between 1989 and 1990, the German first broadcast was on January 5, 1991 in the show Disney Club ( Das Erste ).

action

The focus of the series is the five-person "rescue force", consisting of Chip and Chap, Trixi, Samson and Summi. The rescue force keeps moving out to solve crimes or to prevent them, whatever they ultimately succeed in doing.

Characters

  • Chip (a croissant) is a chipmunk and the leader of the rescue team. He is dressed in a fedora and a flight jacket and looks like an animal comic version of Indiana Jones . Chip takes his work in the rescue force very seriously. In his spare time he reads detective novels.
  • Chap (official, in the original Dale ) is also a chipmunk. He is dressed in a red Hawaiian shirt with yellow flowers, a reference to the famous television detective Magnum . Chap is rather lazy and spends his free time reading comic books and watching TV. He often seems naive, but clever as a farmer. You can rely on him at the decisive moment.
  • Trixi (in the original Gadget Hackwrench , a language game consisting of the words gadget for "apparatus", hack for "hobbyist, tinkerer" and wrench for " wrench ") is a mouse . Trixi is friendly, highly intelligent and technically gifted. She is the designer of almost all equipment for the rescue team, including the rescue boeing and, after its loss, the airship in which the rescue team regularly travels . She is often the prototype of the absent-minded professor when she is absorbed in her work and preoccupied with it more than with the situation around her, which can sometimes lead to situation comedy. Chip and Chap are both in love with her and make her advances, but they usually remain unsuccessful, even if Trixi seems to react to it every now and then. Her father's name, Geegaw Propello (pronounced Igor), is reminiscent of Igor Ivanovich Sikorski , the inventor of the helicopter .
  • Samson (in the original Monterey Jack or Monty for short , like the American cheese of the same name ) is a well-traveled Australian muscle mouse (based on a kangaroo rat ). He has a weakness: cheese . If he even smells it, his mind skips and he looks hypnotized . His addiction to cheese often causes trouble for the rescue team. Otherwise, Samson is absolutely reliable and indispensable for the rescue team. Although he can take on much larger opponents, he is afraid of most cats . Samson used to be a friend of Trixi's father; Ever since he died in a tragic experiment when Trixi was little, Samson has been looking after Trixi as a fatherly friend.
  • Summi (in the original Zipper ) is a green bow tie and Samson's best friend. Samson is the only one on the rescue team who understands Summi's language. Summi's small size and ability to fly often help rescue teams.
  • Al Katzone (originally Fat Cat ) is a tomcat and one of the two main enemies of the rescue team. Al Katzone is a gang boss - his German name is a reference to the famous crook Al Capone . He was the pet of the notorious criminal genius Raffinelly (originally Aldrin Klordane), and he was the only person Al Katzone has respect for. Al Katzone lives above a cat food factory in a large cat statue. In addition to an office, there is a casino and amusement arcade in which all kinds of criminal rabble hang around. He describes himself as the king of the animal underworld. Al Katzone also has a cousin who lives in Paris.
  • His henchmen:
    • Claw ( Mepps ): a street cat ; is occasionally also called Mepps in German
    • Wart ( Wart ): a lizard
    • Molly ( Mole ): a mole
    • Ratzo ( Snout (= snout )) a rat ; only appears in a few episodes
  • Professor Norton Nimnul is a mad scientist and the second main enemy of the rescue force. He has often tried to get money with the help of insane inventions or to usurp world domination. Professor Norton Nimnul has thinning orange hair, a mustache and wears glasses with extremely thick lenses.
    • Normie: Normie is Norton Nimnul's nephew and looks like a younger version of his uncle. Like his uncle, he has orange-colored hair, but without a bald or bald head, but in a curly shape, and also wears glasses, but no mustache.
  • Rattcapone is a rat and the third major opponent of the rescue force. He lives in the city's sewers.
  • His henchmen:

Trivia

In the English version of the Darkwing Duck episode "Multitalent Megavolt" (or "Twitching channels") there is a short conversation between Chip and Samson and then the saying "Rescue Rangers away!" and the listening character (an allusion to our real life) said "Now there's a cartoon show!". - In the German version, this EasterEgg was not even included and instead dismissed as a Darkwing Duck-exclusive fictional series with the title "The boxing kangaroo" and "that's a great cartoon series".

Frank Angones, author of the Disney series DuckTales (2017) , planned to reboot the series, but it was rejected.
