Chip'n 'Dale (English: Chip' n 'Dale and Chip an' Dale ) are two comic - strip or chipmunks , by the Walt Disney Company were created. Since 1991 they have been referred to as Chip and Chap in the series Chip und Chap - The Knights of Law in Germany and Austria ; Comics will continue to be published under their traditional names (see below). The English name Chip 'n' Dale is a play on the name Chippendale (see Thomas Chippendale ).

They had their first appearance in 1943 in the animated short film Private Pluto , in which they tease the dog Pluto . However, they only got their name on their third appearance in the Oscar-nominated short film Chip an 'Dale (1947), in which they first fought with Donald Duck , who would subsequently become their opponent in most appearances. In 1951 they got their own series of animated films, but only three short films were made.

Ahörnchen (Chip) is the smarter part of the duo. He has a black nose. He is calculating and thus represents a contrast to Dale, who, in addition to his red nose and widely spaced front teeth, is characterized by his cranked behavior.

Different German names

The two chipmunk had their first German comic appearance in 1952 as "Ahörnchen und Beehorn". They were presented to the reader as follows:

Once upon a time there were two American chipmunks. A male, that was called a horny, and a female, that was called a horny ( Micky Mouse special issue 5, 1952)

Be (e) Hörnchen - whose name had meanwhile been shortened by an e - remained a female until the beginning of 1957, after which he was made into Ahörnchen's brother. Dale is both a man and a woman's name in the United States. Sometimes other spellings appeared, e.g. B. They are written on a video cover from the 1980s A-croissant and B-croissant .

In 1991 the animated television series Chip and Chap - Die Ritter des Rechts ( Chip 'n Dale Rescue Rangers ) started on German television. For this purpose, they renamed the Ahörnchen and the officials Chip and Chap. They also got these names in the new dubbing of the old cartoons. Since then, both names have appeared in comic publications: The classic clinkerless chipmunk are still called Ahörnchen and Amtnchen. Comics based on the television series, on the other hand, are known as Chip and Chap.
