Pluto (Disney)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Pluto is a fictional character best known for a series of animated short films by Disney . Pluto mostly appeared as Mickey Mouse's house dog , although he was also both Donald Duck's dog and Goofy's dog, who is also a dog. However, there were also animated short films in the 1940s and 1950s in which he was seen as an independent character. Pluto is an unusual Disney character because - apart from his large repertoire of facial expressions - he is not further humanized . The only words he has ever spoken were " Kiss me " (in the original: " Kiss me "). Pluto's character and facial expressions were primarily defined by the Disney cartoonist Norman Ferguson, who was inspired by the then famous vaudeville stars. Ferguson animated Pluto until his death in 1957.

Pluto was named after the celestial body Pluto , which was discovered in 1930, the same year that Disney invented the character.

Pluto's first appearance was on August 18, 1930 in the Mickey Mouse episode The Convict Column (originally: The Chain Gang ) as a sniffer dog on the trail of the escaped convict Micky. This character was later transformed into Minnie Mouse 's dog Rover. Disney later changed the name from Rover to Pluto and became Mickey Mouse. Pluto became Mickey's best friend alongside Goofy. His first appearance on Floyd Gottfredson's newspaper trips took place on July 8, 1931.

Pluto is one of the first Disney characters whose design took on a more plastic appearance instead of the previously flat appearance. In addition, he is one of the first characters in which new variants of the cartoon animation appeared. These developments can be seen well in a characteristic scene in the cartoon Playful Pluto , published March 3, 1934 , in which a piece of paper sticks to Pluto and he tries to get rid of it on his own.

Other characters also appear in Pluto's own short films: the female dogs Fifi ( Pekingese ) and Dinah ( dachshund ) as well as Ronnie, a St. Bernard puppy . Other characters are his enemies Butch, a bulldog , the kitten Figaro, a squirrel and little bureau, and the bee Buzz.

In 1942 the animated short film Pluto Junior came out, in which Pluto has a son, who was simply called Pluto Junior. In 1946 he got a younger brother named KB in Pluto's Kid Brother ( Pluto's little brother )

Pluto appeared in other Disney series.
