Church in Seyfrieds

Seyfrieds is a place and at the same time a cadastral community of the municipality of Heidenreichstein in the northwestern Waldviertel. The village was probably founded at the end of the 12th or beginning of the 13th century. The parish affiliation of the place including the church changed several times between Heidenreichstein, Litschau and Eisgarn . Seyfrieds was temporarily also an independent parish, to which Haslau , Wolfsegg and Guttenbrunn belonged. The Roman Catholic church building is dedicated to St. John.

geography

Seyfrieds borders on the following cadastral communities of the municipality of Heidenreichstein: in the north on Kleinpertholz and Heidenreichstein, in the west on Wielandsberg , in the east on Wolfsegg and in the south on Haslau .

Seyfrieds also borders on the Aalfang cadastral community in the Amaliendorf-Aalfang community .

The highest elevation is at the fire houses at 608  m above sea level. A. The Geißbachteich lies on the territory of the cadastral community.

history

The place name is derived from the Old High German personal name "Seyfried or Sigfried".

Seyfrieds was first mentioned in a document in 1314, became a cadastral community in 1784 and was constituted in 1850 with 205 inhabitants at the time, together with the cadastral community of Haslau to form the political municipality of Seyfrieds. In 1934 the community had 517 and in 1939 439 inhabitants.

In 1784 the school building for the school was built, which was originally run as a parish school and closed in 1976. In 1894 the volunteer fire brigade Seyfrieds was founded and a fire station was built. Electrification began in 1947.

On January 1, 1976, based on a municipal council resolution, it was finally merged with the town of Heidenreichstein. In 2001 the village (excluding Haslau) had 280 inhabitants.

church

The Seyfrieds parish church is essentially a Romanesque church building from 1450 (according to other sources from 1180). The last reconstruction took place from 1950 to 1953, whereby the walled-up arched portal and the arched windows were exposed. The church is used regularly for Sunday services.

Seyfrieds is its own parish which, in addition to the fortified church in Seyfrieds, has village chapels in Haslau, Brandhäuser, and Guttenbrunn. The parish belongs to the pastoral care area of the parish Heidenreichstein.
