history

The place name is derived from the Old High German personal name "Eburwin". Eberweis was first mentioned in a document in 1369, became a cadastral municipality in 1784 and was constituted in 1850 with 205 inhabitants at the time, together with the cadastral municipality of Dietweis, to form the political municipality of Eberweis. The separation took place in 1925 and Dietweis became an independent political municipality.

In 1841 there was already a primary school, which was closed in 1965.

In 1859, a wooden chapel previously located on the site was inaugurated, a stone chapel, the "Pilgrimage Chapel to the Good Shepherd", which was renovated in 1934 and given a tower cross. During a recent renovation, the chapel received a copper roof in 1957. In 1976 another extensive restoration took place.

In 1934 the place had 289 and 1939 251 inhabitants. In 1946 electrification by the Waidhofen an der Thaya electrical works was decided.

On January 1, 1970, it was finally merged with the municipality of Heidenreichstein on the basis of a municipal council resolution. In 2001, 226 people lived in the village.
