history

In a document around 1330 Seyfrieds was named as a parish and church location. The initially Romanesque church was changed to a Gothic hall church. The parish went under in 1544. In 1784 the parish was re-established. 1862 and 1895 were renovations. From 1950 to 1953 a new nave and choir and south tower were added to the plans of the architect Helmut Schopper, while the old nave was preserved.

architecture

The church is raised in the east of Seyfrieds and is surrounded by a walled cemetery. The Romanesque nave from the end of the 12th century had a ridge turret, the simple west facade shows itself as quarry stone masonry with herringbone layers, the three arched windows in the west and south were changed in 1830, in the south the remains of a Romanesque portal can be seen in the masonry.

The south tower with a hipped roof shows the year 1950. In the east from 1950 to 1953 a nave with a retracted rectangular choir was built on the site of the former Romanesque square choir. A new sacristy was added to the north side of the old and new nave. The new building is an unplastered quarry stone building with arched windows and a circular window in the east.

The old nave as an initial Romanesque hall with a flat ceiling - the former beam supports have been preserved - was converted in the first half of the 15th century into a two-aisled three-bay late Gothic hall with ribbed vaults on eight-sided pillars and consoles. The eastern parting arch branches out as a three-ray. The retracted round triumphal arch now opens to the new nave. The two-axis organ loft with cross ribs in the old nave is from the 15th century. On the north wall of the old nave there are fragments of a wall painting depicting saints.

The new nave is a three-aisled staggered hall with a raised coffered ceiling in the central nave and with wooden beam ceilings in the side aisles above wooden beam girders made from eight-sided pillars. Behind a round triumphal arch is a raised rectangular choir with a flat wooden barrel in a herringbone bond. The altar wall shows the wall painting Crucifixion by the painter Franz Pitza (1953). The stained glass in the circular window shows the dove of the Holy Spirit.

Furnishing

The font with a figure of John the Baptist was created around 1950/1960.

The organ was built by Franz Capek (1906). A bell was cast in 1514. Ignaz Begl (1755) cast a bell.
