Divider arches in the Church of St. Zeno after the Gothicization 1518–1520

The Scheidbogen (also Scheidebogen ) is an arch that separates the nave of a church from the aisle as an arcade , or an arch between two adjacent aisles. It can be found mainly in Hallenkirchen . A vaginal arch can be structurally replaced by a vaginal arch rib or emphasized decoratively. In this case one speaks - instead of a vaginal arch - also of a vaginal rib .

Partition arches as elements of vaults and the wall structure

Cutting arcs delimit a yoke in the longitudinal direction. A pair of belt arches , which close the yoke in the transverse direction, and a pair of separating arches result in a cross vault . With the belt arches and the pillars or columns at the four corners, the dividing arches form a vault field as the basic element of a vault.

A wall supported by divider arches is called a divider wall.
