Inspector Gadget is an animated series about an awkward, absent-minded and forgotten police inspector who uses all kinds of technical equipment to hunt down criminals.

Inspector Gadget is a cyborg with various devices called gadgets built into his body and clothing . His main opponent is the leader of the organization MAD , the mysterious and always (called he "MAD Cat") of his cat accompanied Dr. Claw . Gadget is usually accompanied by his clever niece Sophie ('Penny' in the English version), who uses her computer book to help the clumsy inspector out of a jam again and again and ensures that her uncle wins the day again over the bad one Dr. Claw carries away. The main victim of Inspector Gadget's awkwardness remains Sophie's dog Finot ('Brain' in the English version), who spies on him during his investigations on Sophie's behalf in order to help him out of a tight spot with her again and again.
The gadgets
Gadget triggers most functions with the command “Go-Go-Gadget-o…”.
- Legs / Arms / Neck : All of these body parts can be extended like telescopes .
- Binoculars : Tucked in his hat and lowered from there over his eyes.
- Fingers : The fingers contain numerous tools that he can use by removing the tips of the fingers, such as: B. flashlight , lock pick , laser , pen , screwdriver , drill , snow cannon , corkscrew , water pistol or whistle .
- Hammer : guided out of the hat by a mechanical hand.

His gadgets don't always work, but he usually uses them to save Sophie's life and solve the case.
Production and publication
The series was produced from 1983 to 1986 by DiC Entertainment , France 3 , LBS Communications , Nelvana , Tokyo Movie Shinsha and Cuckoo's Nest Studio . Directed by Dave Cox, Edouard David, Raymond Jafelice and Ken Stephenson. The music was composed by Shuki Levy. The series first aired in the United States from September 10, 1983 to February 1, 1986.
Inspector Gadget has been translated into Polish, French, Korean and Italian, among others. The German version was first broadcast by RTLplus on January 3, 1988 . It was later repeated by ProSieben , Fox Kids , Sat.1 , Super RTL and ORF eins . The first 12 episodes of the series were released on 4 single DVDs in 2004, but these are now sold out. On March 19, 2010, a new 10-DVD box of the entire first season (episodes 1 to 65) was released without age restriction.
Voice actor
The German dubbed version of the series was produced by Alster Studios. Wolfgang Draeger , who also wrote the dialogue books for the series, directed the dubbing .

Movies
- Actual films
An adaptation of the series was produced by Disney in 1999 under the title Inspector Gadget . Due to the success of the film, a sequel was produced in 2003 under the title Inspector Gadget 2 . In doing so, however, the actors from Part 1 were not recruited and the entire tribe was replaced.
- Cartoons
A series special was produced as early as 1992 under the title Inspector Gadget saves Christmas . Due to the rising popularity of the series, DiC produced the film Inspector Gadgets Last Case in 2002 , which is supposed to represent the finale of the cartoon series. However, some innovations (a 14 year old Sophie, known as Penny in the film, and a talking mobile gadget like in the films) have been made.
- Computer animated film
Under the title Inspector Gadget - Mission Pterosaurs , the last film to date was made in 2005. The film can be seen as a kind of sequel to Inspector Gadget's last case , since Penny is already 16 in this film and Gadget is finally Dr. Could arrest claw.

- Gadget boy
The series produced in 1995 is about a much younger Inspector Gadget, called Gadget Boy, his partner Heather and his robo-dog G-9. His opponent is Spydra, a six-armed criminal who always hides her face behind a mask. The series was shown in two seasons in the US, while in season 1 (called Gadget Boy & Heather ) every episode is about stopping Spydra's organization of horror, Gadget Boy travels through time in season 2 ( Gadget Boy's Adventures in History ) To keep Spyrda from changing the future. In Germany, both seasons were shown under the title Gadget Boy .
- Inspector Gadget's Field Trip
In 1996 DiC produced a kind of sequel to the original Inspector Gadget series, which, however, was not related to his adventures in the fight against Dr. Claw acted. Instead, an animated Inspector Gadget travels to different locations in real film recordings and tells the audience special information about the places visited. 50 episodes of 25 minutes each were produced.
In 2014 a new series came out that, like the last film, was made with computer animation. The series has been broadcast on Super RTL since 2015.
Inspector Gadet is returning to headquarters from retirement as Dr. Claw is up to mischief again. The special thing is that Sophie (his niece) is now older and an agent in training. They also have to fight Titus, the nephew of Dr. Claw, fight, who supports his uncle in his plans. Sophie and Titus are secretly in love with each other.
