Captain Buzz Lightyear - Star Command ( English: Buzz Lightyear of Star Command ) is an American cartoon series by the Walt Disney Company from 2000 with 65 episodes. It is based on the first computer-animated feature film from Disney and Pixar in 1995, Toy Story .

action

The series is about a team that fights against dark forces of evil. It is made up of so-called space rangers and is under the command of the intergalactic protection organization Star Command . One of the opponents is Zurg, a slightly incompetent but all the more power-hungry warlord. The Space Ranger team, who oppose him again and again, consists of Buzz Lightyear as the leader of the team, the brave Princess Mira Nova from the planet Tangea, who has psychokinetic powers, the robot XR, which is equipped with a lot of high-tech, and a thick, strong, but very heartfelt alien named Booster.

Characters

Star Command members
  • Buzz Lightyear is a senior space ranger known for his heroism and valor. He is a very extraordinary, but sometimes very stubborn man who, according to his motto for the salvation of the galaxy, would go "to infinity and much further".
  • Princess Mira Nova is both a novice ranger and the heiress to the throne of Tangea, which she (for the time being) renounces due to a career at Star Command. She can walk through walls with the help of her people's heritage and has limited telepathic abilities (such as the "Tangean brainstorm"). She is the youngest team member next to XR.
  • Booster Sinclair Munchapper is a dinosaur-like alien who has both a big appetite and is very strong. Booster was originally part of the cleaning staff at Star Command, but eventually became a loyal team member as a reward for his selfless work.
  • XR (abbreviation for "e x perimenteller R anger") is a small robot that is similar to R2-D2 . It consists of many small individual parts, into which it sometimes falls apart. XR stands for "Experimental Ranger" and is the prototype of a mechanical ranger, which was specially designed for Buzz, who had refused to accept a living partner after his old partner Warp Antimatter disappeared. XR is extremely intelligent, but also very knowledgeable. Nonetheless, in the series he repeatedly proves his courage and worthiness as a space ranger.
  • Commander Nebula is the commander of Star Command and the head of Buzz Lightyear and his team. He has lost his leg and has a simple leg prosthesis in its place . The often irritable Commander Nebula usually speaks in the series with a loud, military voice. He was partly responsible for creating XR because he signed a petition without paying any attention to what it said. XR repeatedly refers to the Commander as "father" in the series.
  • The KGM s (abbreviation for "little green men") represent the technical staff and the scientists of Star Command. They are about three feet tall, have three eyes and are through the mystical "overbrain" that is on their home world , telepathically connected to each other. The KGMs are also very joking at times and love to play pranks on Commander Nebula.
opponent
  • Emperor Zurg is the ruler of a great empire whose seat is on planet Z. Zurg is a tyrannical despot who desperately wants to conquer the galaxy. Most of the time, however, his plans are thwarted by Buzz Lightyear and Star Command. Zurg wears armor that allows him to fly, and he can turn his arms into any weapon. Zurg mentions in the film that he is the father of Buzz Lightyear, but this theory is not taken up again in the series.
  • Warp Antimatter (English Warp Darkmatter) also known as Agent Z , is the renegade partner of Buzz Lightyear, who apparently fell victim to an explosion in the film. It is later revealed that Warp arranged the explosion to overflow to Zurg's empire. Zurg is said to have been warp since

the college, have financially supported. In the first episode, Warp lost his right arm in an accident and replaced it with a prosthesis that he can transform into various, sometimes heavy-caliber weapons.

  • XL (abbreviation for e x tra l arge) is the predecessor of XR, a robot prototype that was paralyzed due to technical malfunctions. Later, Zurg found the body of XL and revived it with upgrades . Furious, XL decided to join Zurg and devote his life to crime and fighting Star Command. He regularly breaks into robotic laboratories in order to steal modern special weapons and technologies and later to incorporate them.
  • NOS-4-A2 (pronounced "Nos-fi-a-tu", a reference to the movie Nosferatu ) is a robot vampire created by Zurg. NOS-4-A2 can take control of machines using computer viruses that it can inject through bites into machines. Apparently his bites also affect people: for example, Ty Parsec is B. by a bite of NOS-4-A2 into wirewolf, a cyborg werewolf.
  • Gravitina is an alien femme fatale who fell madly in love with Buzz. It has a large head and can (as the name suggests) change and control the gravity of objects and people. She allies herself with Zurg against Star Command in later episodes.
  • Torque is an alien criminal who works as a robber, smuggler and terrorist. Zurg implanted Torque novel technologies that enable him to reproduce himself, while making copies of himself as a loyal helper or a welcome distraction. However, these "clones" are not stable and disintegrate into their individual parts again after a short time. Torque is not particularly intelligent, however, which is why his plans usually don't work out and he usually finds himself at the end of the episode in a Star Command prison, just to wait for Zurg to free him again.
  • The Grubs are Zurg's staff and the counterpart to the KGMs, although they are far less competent. They represent Zurg's researchers, engineers and technicians. The insect-like beings seem to be the natives of planet Z. In later episodes it becomes clear that the Grubs von Zurg are oppressed and actually want to live in peace.
  • Brains (English Brain Pods) are Zurg's scientists, brains placed in glasses , on which the eyes and parts of the spine are still located. Thanks to cybernetic bodies, they can move around and carry out their activities. Secretly, however, like the Grunds, the brains want to live in peace and secretly reject Zurg's rule.
  • Hornets (English hornets) are Zurgs loyal foot soldiers, thin, yellow painted fighting robots. They serve Zurg as soldiers, guards and security personnel. The hornets can fly and have weapons built into their arms. The hornets do not seem to be very intelligent and obviously cannot speak, instead they usually make themselves noticeable by arm movements. They come in a variety of different forms, ranging from warriors to huge, formidable destroyer robots. These soldiers are manufactured in huge, fully automated factories on planet Z. The appearance and behavior of the hornets are very reminiscent of the Battle Droids from Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace .
  • Baking soda is a vicious, ancient, mummy- like form of life from Planet X, which was brought into a kind of stasis by "the protectors" thousands of years ago in order to prevent them from further action. Thousands of years later, the KGMs find his temple during archaeological digs on Planet X, and inadvertently bring baking soda to life. Shortly afterwards, he froze almost all life on Capital Planet, but Natron was defeated again by the KGMs when they drained the life force that he had stolen from Warp antimatter shortly before. Now he rests again in his temple on Planet X, where his stasis chamber is under constant observation. Thanks to his advanced technology he is next to Zurg one of the strongest opponents of Buzz Lightyear. The name Natron is an allusion to sodium , which was often used in mummification .
  • Like Mira Nova, Angstrom belongs to the Tangean people. The previous Imperial Chancellor was once King Nova's friend and faithful advisor. Later, however, driven by greed, he joined a rebel group that wanted to overthrow the king, a plan that was foiled thanks to the help of Buzz and his crew.

Places, planets and worlds

  • Jo-Ad is a farmer's planet with almost all farms. The planet is very important to the galaxy because of its agricultural economy. Jo-Ad is a relatively calm world, but it is occasionally tyrannized by Torque. Jo-Ad is Booster's home world.
  • Capital City is Star Command's main planet and the center of government. At the same time, the planet is also the intergalactic meeting place of the different worlds.
  • The commercial world (English TradeWorld) is the economic center of the galaxy, due to its huge population of the place of most crimes. Because the local authorities usually deal with the criminals, Star Command rarely interferes.
  • KGM Heimatwelt (English LGM Home Planet) is the home planet of the KGMs and their "overbrain". In the film, Zurg and Agent Z attack the planet, destroying a large part of the cities on the KGM homeworld.
  • Planet Z is the seat of Zurg's empire and the center of its imperial power. The planet is orbited by artificial “defense moons” equipped with defense drones, laser guns and missiles. Planet Z is a reddish-colored world with no flora or native animal species . Planet Z is above all an industrial world where Zurg's hornets and his spaceships are built; there are also a number of huge test laboratories on Planet Z in which genetics, novel cloning technologies and extremely modern nano-technology are experimented with. Whether Planet Z is Zurg's homeworld remains unclear; the only indigenous race appear to be the Grubs.
  • Mahamba 6 is a pleasure and vacation planet that is strongly reminiscent of earthly Hawaii and Disney World .
  • Tangea is Mira Nova's homeworld, a beautiful, culturally reminiscent of the Renaissance period with a monarchy. The Tangeans are beings who have a variety of abilities, including being able to move through solid objects by making themselves transparent.
  • Planet of Widows and Orphans (English Planet of Widows and Orophans) is an unspecified world on which only "innocent" live. Zurg wants to fire at the planet in the film with his new ray cannon.
  • Nordpolaris (English North Polaris) is the home of Santa Claus , a space station that is reminiscent of a giant snow globe . Zurg sabotages Santa Claus and his helpers, who in this case are KGMs, to prevent Christmas.
  • Planet X is a deserted, barren world that was once populated by a great civilization. The surface of the planet is a large, extremely hostile desert. On Planet X there are some extinct cities as well as the Temple of Natron.
  • Sitka 7 is an ice planet on which snow sports are particularly popular. In terms of appearance, the local cities are reminiscent of the Swiss or Austrian Alps .
  • Verdentia is a jungle-like planet whose inhabitants are considered to be particularly peace-loving. The Verdentians are vegetarians and have a culture that is strongly reminiscent of ancient Greece. In the film, Zurg succeeds in gaining total control over Verdentia thanks to the KGM's kidnapped super brain.
  • Roswell is a planet where the population is about the same as in 1947. Ironically, the inhabitants correspond to the classic aliens with big heads and eyes and small bodies. Roswell residents fear "aliens," which they consider to be Buzz and his team.
  • Sands de Solay was a vacation planet that was accidentally destroyed by a spaceship piloted by Buzz's crew.
  • Canis Lunis is a planet with permanent night and a permanent full moon . Except for a Star Command station, Canis Lunis has very little vegetation. On Canis Lunis, Ty Parsec is transformed from NOS-4-A2 into Wirewolf. The name of the planet either consists of the Latin words " Canis " (a kind of wild dog) and " Luna " (the moon) or is an allusion to the Latin name of the wolf (Canis Lupus).
