Ron Clements (born April 25, 1953 in Sioux City , Iowa , USA ) is an American animator and cartoon director .

Career

After graduating from the Art of College of Design in Pasadena , Clements began his career as an animator with Hanna-Barbera . After a few months, Clements moved to the Walt Disney Company , where he met John Musker . At the Walt Disney Company they worked on films such as Bernhard and Bianca , Elliot, the Schmunzelmonster , Cap and Capper and Taran and the magic cauldron . The first film directed by Clements and Musker was Basil, the great mouse detective , and was later followed by Arielle the mermaid . In 1992 the duo directed the highly successful film Aladdin , and the 1997 film Hercules received critical acclaim. The treasure planet was significantly less successful commercially . Ron Clements, together with John Musker, is one of the leading teams in contemporary animation.

In 2010, the animated film Kiss the Frog earned him an Oscar nomination.
