action

When on a boat trip with his trainer a storm rises and the boat capsizes, film dog Benji goes overboard and is considered missing, but is able to save himself on a lonely island. After watching a female puma get shot by a big game hunter, he takes her four cubs into his care. He searches for food for them, guards them at night and protects them from predators. During his stay, Benji met another female puma living on the island several times.

Benji falls into the clutches of the big game hunter who wants to collect the suspended finder's fee. With the help of a ruse, Benji manages to drive away a wolf that appears in front of the hunter's hut . When the hunter is briefly distracted, Benji flees and steals his lunch.

While Benji shows the pumababies their environment, the wolf stays close on their heels; Benji also has to protect the puma offspring from a bear. The mongrel dog is searched for several times by helicopter, but Benji does not reveal himself so that he can continue to care for the puma offspring. Benji stands by the boys as they curiously explore a stream, but cannot prevent one of the young from being torn by an eagle .

In several confrontations with the wolf, Benji manages to put him to flight, and in the last confrontation he uses a ruse to make the wolf fall into a ravine.

Benji hands the three cubs over to the female puma and lets the helicopter take her home.

Reviews

"Mostly consisting of animal and nature shots, the film fortunately dispenses with a convulsive humanization of the 'hero' and despite some lengthy scenes offers good entertainment for the whole family."
