Animals are looking for a home is the title of a television program broadcast by WDR television as part of the "Servicezeit" series. The focus is on the placement of pets , which are presented in the broadcast by various animal shelters or animal welfare associations.

content

In each episode, several animal shelters and animal welfare initiatives from NRW and the neighboring federal states are guests, who present some of their protégés, their fate and their characteristics. These are mainly "normal" pets such as dogs , cats , rabbits or guinea pigs . Sometimes, however, “unusual” pets are also guests, such as pot-bellied pigs , sheep or exotic animals such as bearded dragons . In addition to animal mediation, short films are shown on, for example, animal welfare, animal welfare, wild animals, tips from experts, etc. There is also the regular section “Found at home”, in which successfully placed animals are shown in their new homes and the new owners have their say come. The placement is done by the animal shelters, whose phone numbers are displayed during the broadcast.

Production and broadcast

The broadcast is recorded a few days before it is broadcast in the largest WDR outdoor studio in Cologne-Bocklemünd / Mengenich and then broadcast on Sundays from 6.15 p.m. to 7.10 p.m. It started in 1991 with the Cologne journalist Irene Geuer as a presenter and was initially shown bi-weekly alternating with “Time for Animals”. Claudia Ludwig then took over the show. Since the summer of 1999, “Animals are looking for a home” has been running weekly with extended airtime. In February 2012, the WDR announced that it would replace the presenter Claudia Ludwig. WDR announced the new concept in a press release on February 27, 2012. In May 2012 Simone Sombecki took over the moderation of the show. From 2020 the show will also be moderated by Oliver Petszokat (Oli.P), who will previously work as a reporter for the show from October 13, 2019 until the end of the year.
