Animaniacs is an American animated series published by Warner Bros. Television that Steven Spielberg produced from 1993 to 1998.

content

Animaniacs is a combination of animated and maniacs , which means animated crazy people in German . First and foremost it is about the crazy "Warner Brothers" Yakko and Wakko Warner as well as the "Warner Sister" Dot, which were created by draftsmen of the Warner Brothers Studios. After a short time they became too intrusive and annoying, which is why they were locked in the famous (real existing) water tower of Warner Studios, from which they break out in every episode.

The joke of the series is the mix of ancient cartoons with a lot of violence, slapstick and numerous swipes and allusions to real pop culture . A central element of the series is the parody of Hollywood and the entire film business. Animaniacs also teaches a lot of interesting learning content in the areas of geography , history , mathematics and astronomy in the form of songs.

The series usually does not consist of a single plot with the three main characters, but regularly consists of several mini-episodes with the respective characters, such as episodes only with Yakko, Wakko and Dot or episodes with Pinky and the Brain. In some episodes all characters appear.

characters

  • The Warner Brothers (and the Warner sister) are the main characters of the series, created in the 1930s. Outwardly they resemble dogs and cats with long ears, a snout, button eyes, a black and white fur and a tail, but in the whole series it is never clarified which species it really is. This question comes up more often as a running gag . There's even a song on the show about what kind of animals the Warners are supposed to be. Most of them are referred to as puppy children by those around them, they usually only refer to themselves as the "Warner Brothers" and the "Warner Sisters".
    • Yakko (the oldest) usually talks quickly and is usually the spokesman too, he is smart and loves Groucho Marx . Due to his quick speech, he is able to sing all countries of the world in a few minutes or all words in a dictionary with rhymes. He and his brother Wakko overreact to attractive women by jumping on the pretty women, kissing them and shouting “Hallooooo, sister” loudly. His favorite actress is Michelle Pfeiffer . Yakko wears brown pants with a black belt. He is left handed. Its name is derived from the English "to yak", which means to chatter.
    • Wakko (the middle one) has a tongue that often sticks out and he always has a great appetite for all kinds of food. He sometimes even eats chairs and tables. Wakko also seems to be the most violent of the trio, not infrequently he hits one or the other character with an oversized mallet or an anvil. He's terrified of clowns. In emergencies he always has a large sack with him, in which more or less useful equipment is hidden in order to save himself from a dangerous situation. He's wearing a red baseball cap (which he almost always wears) and a light blue turtleneck. Its name is derived from the English "wacky", which means crazy or crazy.
    • Dot (the youngest) is cute and cheeky and takes great care of her looks. She uses her apparently childlike innocence to manipulate those around her. Dot's full name is: " Princess Angelina Contessa Louisa Francesca Banana Fanna Bo Besca the Third". The name is a reference to Pippi Longstocking's long name. Dot hates being addressed as "Dottie" and threatens anyone who calls her with death. Dot has a pet monster that is hidden in a small box. She is ashamed when her two brothers turn on women, but Dot behaves the same way when she sees a handsome man. She is wearing a pink skirt and has a yellow flower tied around her long ears. The frequent "Hallooooo, sister" of her brothers annoys her very much.
  • Doctor Otto Freudlos ( Scratchansniff ) is an Austrian psychiatrist who tries to treat the Warners. He is bald, although he still had long white hair in the first episode, which he pulled out himself out of anger at the annoying Warner siblings. In the original he speaks with a strong German accent, sometimes with German words, in the German-language dubbed version he speaks with an Austrian accent. He's also kind of a father figure to Yakko, Wakko, and Dot.
  • The nurse ( "Hello, sister!" ) Is Doctor Freudlos' blonde, attractive assistant. Her real name is never mentioned. In the English-language original, the exclamation ("HellooOoo Nurse !!") that the Warner brothers usually utter when they meet the nurse corresponds to (an allusion to a widespread exclamation from the wedding of vaudevilles to greet attractive female figures at the Stage), at the same time your actual name (first name "Hello", last name "Nurse").
  • Mr. Squidward Plotz is the head of Warner Brothers Studios.
  • Ralph is the dumb security guard at Warner Studios, whose job it is to recapture the Warners. He had previously appeared as a security guard on the Tiny Toon adventures . He is very naive and good-natured and can easily be ripped off by the Warners.
  • Miss Eisbein ( Ms. Flamiel ) is the slightly frustrated teacher of the Warners. With discipline and rigor, she tries to teach the Warners something, which almost always goes wrong.
  • Dot's pet is a monstrous creature that she keeps in her pocket (looks different every time).
  • Pinky and the Brain are two white laboratory mice that try to take over the world, but what always goes wrong. Brain is the genius with a tendency to megalomania. Pinky, on the other hand, is unintelligent, childish and playful and has only limited interest in Brain's plans. He very often uses made up meaningless words such as "Narf!", "Zort!", "Troz!", "Fjord!", "Listen!" And "Poit!" The two quickly became popular and got their own offshoot ( Pinky and the Brain )parallel to Animaniacs.
  • Aunt Slappy is an old squirrel who used to be a well-known cartoon star and mostly fought her rivals with bombs. She is usually bitter, in a bad mood and wants to be in peace, but can still outsmart her old opponents like Walter Wolf. She always has an open ear for her little nephew Skippy. Her frequently recurring saying at the end of an episode is: Well that's what I call comedy! She likes to sit in front of the TV, but too much gossip (talk shows) seems to drive her crazy, as you could see in the episode "One Flew Over the Cuckoo Clock".
  • Skippy is Slappy's young nephew who admires and loves her very much. Skippy is portrayed as a little boy, but also shows acting talent. When he sees something that is disturbing for children, or when he gets hit, he usually starts crying. Sometimes he also has to get nuts.
  • Walter Wolf is Aunt Slappy's old opponent who still wants to finish her off, but his attacks on Slappy always backfire.
  • The Goodfeathers (parody of the movie Goodfellas ) are three pigeons named Bobby , Squit and Pesto who are always fighting and fighting. Her boss, the "Godfather", is an older, fat pigeon who speaks Italian gibberish (another parody of the film The Godfather ).
  • Rita is a singing cat who is always on the go with Runt and who is looking for a home together with the dog. But the two of them sometimes get into trouble when searching.
  • Runt is an unintelligent but rather strong and fat dog who always follows Rita and mistakes her for a dog. If Rita is ever in danger, he intervenes immediately. He seems to like Rita's singing and sometimes serenades it. He has a good relationship with cats (not only with Rita).
  • Buttons is a heroic dog (like Lassie ) whose job it is to take care of the toddler Mindy , who often gets himself into life-threatening situations. He saves Mindy, but always hurts himself.
  • Chicken Boo is a giant rooster that always disguises itself as a human, but is exposed and chased away every time.
  • Mr. Bone Face appears in the short episodes Good Idea - Bad Idea .
  • The mime shows short clips mime exercises , usually with a painful end for the pantomimes.
  • Katie Ka-Boom is a teenager who explodes whenever she is upset - mostly over insignificant little things.
