action

When the inhabitants of the magic forest of Burzee find a baby, their excitement is limitless, because never before has a human being been here. However, since they do not know where the child is from and who it belongs to, they decide to take care of the helpless baby and raise it. They call him Nicholas. Their leader Ak, woodruff of the world, thinks it best to entrust the little cubs to the care of the lioness Shiegra. In addition, the forest nymph Necile takes care of the child.

After many years have passed and Nicolas has grown into a young man, Ak shows him how people live. He also gives Nicholas a sash that can be used to make himself invisible. In the human world, Nicholas faces injustice, cruelty, and unfair conditions. There is a big gap between the rich and the poor. The Knooks build a house for Nicholas close to the humans, and Necile gives him a cat, which Nicholas calls Blinky.

In the following time, Nicholas is drawn to the people again and again, for example, he visits a village where he can use his calming way to stop a crying baby from crying and a girl named Megan that it speaks for the first time. For the children, he carves a cat that is Blinky's image to play with. In the wintertime, Ethan, a crippled boy, comes to Nicholas' house to put wood in front of his door to carve. He nearly freezes when Nicholas steps out the door; however, he speaks to him in a friendly manner and asks him into the house. When King Mogorb, the leader of the hostile Awgwas, who live behind the mountain and repeatedly cause great difficulties for Ak and the immortals, learns about it, he is angry.

Nicholas, however, started making more and more children's toys, first mainly cats, later birds, ponies and then even dolls. Seeing this with growing anger, the Awgwas break into Nicholas' house and force him to move to another forest. After a while, however, Nicholas returns and continues his work of making toys for the children and the number is increasing every year.

One day, Nicolas is now at an advanced age, a Knook named Will brings him two reindeer, Mistletoe and Holly, who pull his sleigh in the winter so that he can drive to the villages and provide the children with toys. He always has to be back before daybreak. With the children, the name Saint Nicholas has become common for Nicholas. Nicholas still struggles with the Awgwas, however, as they still try to steal his finished toys. However, when they go too far and also attack a princess named Natalie, Nicholas turns to Ak. Wise, he decides that Nicholas should only give presents to the children once a year in the future, namely at Christmas, because that is what the days from December 24th should be called from now on. While Will Nicholas is now even giving eight reindeer for his sleigh, Ak and his immortals decide to stop the misdeeds of the Awgwas and to do them once and for all. A bitter struggle ensues, at the end of which the awgwas are turned into birds and insects. All of the toys they steal will be given to Nicholas.

From this time onwards, Nicholas travels the world every Christmas to give presents to the children and also introduces the tradition of decorating fir trees and using them to illuminate dark houses and putting small presents in shoes and stockings. It happens again and again that children want to thank their Saint Nicholas with milk and biscuits that they leave on the windowsill. As old age is getting more and more difficult for Nicholas and the end of his life is in sight, Ak calls in the council of the immortals and it is decided to make not only Nicholas, but also Blinky immortal. And so it happens.

criticism

Cinema spoke of a "delightful, very sweet cartoon legend for young and old" and drew the conclusion: "Enchanting Christmas crash course."

The lexicon of international films judged: “Naive American Christmas story, which at least underlines the virtue of humanity. Cute songs and a good dose of sentiment dilute this message a little. "
