action

The Planet Express crew visits Amy's wealthy parents Leo and Inez, who are busy tearing down the "old" Mars Vegas and building a more extravagant new one. A group of eco-feminists protests against the environmental degradation it causes, leading to an accident in which a piece of jewelery shaped like a Venus symbol gets into Fry's head. Leela saves a leech , the last of its kind, because the remaining specimens of its species were wiped out during the construction work. To compensate Fry for the accident, Leo invites Fry to a poker tournament and gives the rest of the crew a vacation. The trinket in his head enables Fry to read minds. Only when he puts on an aluminum hat does he not hear the other voices. Despite his new skill, Fry does not win the poker tournament because Bender has the "lucky foot" of the mafia robot Donbot, which gives him incredible luck.

After the tournament, Fry gets to know the secret society of mind-reading mud pears. They tell him about two ancient opponents in the universe, the encyclopedias and the dark ones. The dark want to destroy all life, the encyclopedias keep it. Fry is given the task of protecting the last egg of an encyclopod, a dwarf star, from destruction. Unfortunately Leo Wong wants to blow this star to build an intergalactic mini golf course .

While Leela joins the eco-feminists, Fry sneaks into Leo as a security inspector with the help of his mind reading. Leela gradually manages to convince Amy and the rest of Planet Express as well. But Leo is still planning his intergalactic mini golf course. In his capacity as security inspector, Fry receives the dubious honor of pulling the trigger for the demolition in a solemn ceremony. He receives a warning from the mud pears that in the crucial seconds one of the dark ones will be there to ensure the destruction of the dwarf star.

At the ceremony it finally turns out that Leela's leech, which she always carries around with her, is the last representative of the dark. He is rendered harmless and eventually killed. The dwarf star is prevented from exploding. Immediately afterwards, an encyclopedia develops from the star, a huge creature living in space, which outwardly resembles a ray and houses a few copies of all extinct species.

To prevent the demolition, the Planet Express team has to flee from the law enforcement officers in the form of Zapp Brannigan. You are giving yourself a chase. Fry and Leela confess their love to each other. To escape their pursuers, they finally fly into a wormhole that suddenly appears, into an uncertain future.

production

The Futurama team began work on the film back in 2006, when union issues affected production. Producer Lee Supercinski According to the notice Futurama -Studio to the animatic of the film of the Rough Draft Studios until two weeks before the deadline of the Writers Guild of America gets. As a result, the authors were forced to look through the script without seeing the entire animatic. The Futurama studio got the finished animated film in June 2008, weeks before a new strike forecast, forcing the writers to re-check the script without seeing the film in full.

Knowing that Leela and the Encyclopods could be the final Futurama episode overall, the writers built in numerous references to this fact. The title screen displays the message: " The Humans Shall Not Defeat Us " ( People must we not defeat ), according to Cohen a defiant taunt regarding the possible end of the series. In the middle of the film there is a take outside the Planet Express building with a banner that says. “ Going Out Of Business Forever! Again! "( Business retirement! Again! ) Hangs, a reference to the first end of production in 2003. There is also a reference in a scene to the first episode of Futurama in which Professor Farnsworth takes off Hermes' and Zoidberg's career chips.

As a thank you for the fans, there is a scene in which up to 250 characters can be seen on the screen, including many smaller roles from the 72 episodes and the 4 feature films. However, there are no children (such as Cubert Farnsworth) removed when the production team noticed Morbo mention that there were no children present. In the DVD commentary, producer David X. Cohen says that Rough Draft Studios in Korea got a higher premium for this scene because of the difficulty in animating it.

The opening music is a Frank Sinatra- style piece sung by Seth MacFarlane , creator of Family Guy and American Dad , while the Planet Express ship flies over the casinos of Mars Vegas.
