Animatic

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

An animatic , also called a story reel , is a filmed storyboard . The individual images of the storyboard are cut together and rudimentary dialogues and soundtrack are added if necessary. On the one hand, this can be used to check whether the timing of the dramaturgy in the finished film is correct and whether the soundtrack and film fit together.

Often, camera movements and zoom are also tested by moving the camera over or zooming in on the images. With digital editing , this task can also be solved with the help of video editing software .

Animatics are preferred for commercials , cartoons , animations and when shooting action or special effects sequences, as their use reveals unnecessary or non-working settings and can thus reduce the costs of shooting.
