Video editing software
Video editing software is video software with which audio and video material can be edited, changed and cut in digital form on the computer ( video editing ).
For this, the raw material to be processed must be transferred ( imported ) to mass storage . While television broadcasters mainly play digital Betacam , Betacam SP, Betacam SX, HDV or DVC Pro, DV ( or rarely Hi8 ) was (still) in use in the private sector until around 2008/2009 . These formats then gave way very quickly to the MPEG-2 and HD formats on predominantly hard drives or SD (HC) cards as well as BD or DVD . Processing on the computer is made possible by so-called codecs - algorithms that convert the analog or digital image material into computer-readable form (keyword: MPEG-2, DV-AVI , etc.).
Terms
- Smart rendering
- When editing the video, the entire film is not recalculated, only the areas that have been changed with dissolves or filters. Unchanged scenes are copied to the target file without loss. This considerably shortens the computing time for creating films.
- GPU support
- There are two ways in which video editing can be accelerated with the support of the graphics processor (GPU). The availability of these depends on the operating system, hardware and drivers.
- Specialized decoding and coding units in the GPU. These implement standard protocols such as H.265 , H.264 , MPEG2 , VP9 .
- Use of the GPU computing resources to accelerate filters and effects via a programming interface such as OpenCL , CUDA or C ++ AMP .
- As an alternative, a main processor with many threads accelerates all filters and effects.
- Linear or non-linear video editing
- Almost every software can handle non-linear video editing (NLE), in which the following film is automatically moved after inserting a scene.
