Kdenlive is a non-linear video editing software for the KDE platform and for Unix-like operating systems such as Linux and FreeBSD , MacOS and Windows . Kdenlive is released under the free GNU General Public License and is free to use and redistribute.

With Kdenlive it is possible to edit several picture and sound tracks. Kdenlive uses the MLT video rendering engine. The current version supports the KDE Plasma Desktop . Kdenlive version 0.5 is available for the K-Desktop-Environment -3.5 series .

The relatively large range of functions puts the program at about the level of commercially available professional software. The range of functions (e.g. filters, audio tools, and much more) can be significantly expanded using optionally installable plug-ins.

The name Kdenlive stands for " KDE N Non- Li nearer V ideo E ditor".

history

The project was started in 2002 by Jason Wood.

The development of Kdenlive went from version K Desktop Environment 3 (which was not originally developed for MLT) to KDE platform 4 and was almost completely rewritten. This was completed with Kdenlive 0.7 released on November 12, 2008. Kdenlive 0.9.10, released October 1, 2014, was the last KDE 4 version.

Kdenlive began planning a move to the KDE project and its infrastructure in 2014 . Porting to KDE Frameworks 5 was completed with the release of 2015.04.0 as part of KDE Applications 5. Kdenlive has been part of the KDE Software Compilation since 2015 .

In early 2017, the development team began work on refactoring the program. A first preview was available in June 2017. In December 2017, refactoring became the focus of the development team with the publication of the first usable preview. The release of the refactoring version was originally planned for August 2018 in KDE 18.08. The current plan for the refactored version is that it will be released during the 04/19 development cycle.

Usability

In contrast to most other free video editing systems, Kdenlive offers the option of setting the user interface to a look and feel that is common with professional video editing software . It integrates seamlessly into the KDE user interface.
