Avidemux is a free , cross-platform video editing software that supports numerous audio , video and container formats and can mostly convert them from one another .

overview

The project represents an alternative to other non-commercial video editing programs such as VirtualDub or AviSynth , which is comparable in terms of functionality, and in some cases even more extensive , and as such is the most popular free program of its kind. In contrast to VirtualDub, the program supports OGM and MPEG-4 files natively .

According to the counter on the project's website, the program has been downloaded over a million times, plus packages from Linux distributions . The project focuses on platform independence and a comparatively high number of standard supported file formats , video and audio codecs and filters .

The maximum number of audio tracks is currently limited to four. The number of channels per audio track, e.g. B. two channels for stereo or one channel for mono , depends on the audio format used .

user interface

Avidemux has a graphical user interface , but can also be operated via script at the command line level. The JavaScript interpreter SpiderMonkey is used for the latter .

The graphical user interface exists in two variants. It is optionally based on the GTK + or Qt libraries , which are available for all common operating systems, which means that platform independence is achieved.
