DirectVobSub (formerly VSFilter ) is a DirectShow filter to show external subtitle files in videos ( soft subs ). It can be used by many media players .
development
VSFilter used to be part of VobSub (project guliverkli ). Among other things, this contained VobSub Ripper (VSRip) to extract the subtitles from a DVD without DVD rip . With the discontinuation of VobSub, however, the development of VSFilter ended in 2005. In 2007 it was renamed DirectVobSub as part of the Guliverkli2 project .
application
VobSub subtitles consist of bitmaps (.sub) and an index (.idx) with a time stamp and offset for each subtitle. Multiple tracks are supported. VobSub subtitles can be embedded in container formats like Matroska or MP4 .
