history

  • Compared to other programs of a similar size, Pinnacle Studio was resource-hungry and buggy in previous versions.
  • When Windows Vista came out , Studio 10 was the current version. An update to version 10.6 should establish compatibility with Vista. However, unidentified conflicts could occur during the update, which prevented the program from starting or caused the program to crash during operation. These problems were only solved with Pinnacle Studio 11.
  • Studio 11 Plus brought native support for editing AVCHD videos. This was a novelty for entry-level video editing software. However, the AVCHD function was slow and the program often crashed. This restriction was not to be found in the system requirements for version 11. The rigid operating concept was criticized in the c't, for example.
  • Pinnacle Studio 16 appeared in August 2012. Since this version, “Pinnacle Studio” has been using the “Avid Studio” code base. Support for Nvidia's CUDA and NVIDIA's 3D Vision technology with compatible Quadro and GeForce graphics cards (hardware-based acceleration when decoding and encoding certain codecs) was new . The creation of 3D and HD films was possible, a new storyboard mode and a six-lane time axis ("timeline") were available. The “Plus” version brought with it extended HD and 3D editing functions, Blu-ray Disc authoring, 24 time axis tracks and the mixing of Dolby Digital 5.1 surround sound. With the “Ultimate” variant, an unlimited number of tracks in the timeline was possible.
  • Pinnacle Studio 17 was released in October 2013. Faster rendering of AVC videos, improved CUDA support and a new "Streamline" interface were included in all variants. The “Plus” version could also record a live screen capture from the monitor, while the “Ultimate” version made it possible to edit 4K videos ( AVCHD 2.0 ).
  • Pinnacle Studio 18 was released in October 2014, offered native 64-bit support and benefited from Intel processors with "Quick Sync" function. The hardware-based acceleration when decoding and encoding certain audio and video codecs using "Quick Sync" has been supported by many Intel processors since the Intel Sandy Bridge microarchitecture (released in January 2011). The "Ultimate" variant offered u. a. Support for XAVC S (HD and 4K HD).
  • Pinnacle Studio 19 appeared in September 2015. New is all variants u. a. a multi-camera processing. The "Plus" variant brings u. a. Audio ducking support as well as extended 3D support with. The "Ultimate" version offers VFR video support, XAVC decoding, DVCPRO HD decoding and MXF import. Blu-ray authoring is possible by purchasing a separate plug-in from within Pinnacle Studio. All versions are optimized for Intel processors of the sixth generation (Skylake) . Skylake has a revised "Quick Sync" function which, compared to the previous architecture, offers expanded support for hardware-accelerated decoding and encoding of multimedia formats. For example, Skylake accelerates the 8-bit decoding / encoding of H.265 / HEVC content. Version 19.5 was released in April 2016. An update is only possible with patch 19.1.3 already installed.
  • Pinnacle Studio 20 was released in August 2016.
  • Pinnacle Studio 21 was released in August 2017.
  • Pinnacle Studio 22 was released in August 2018.
  • Pinnacle Studio 23 was released in August 2019.
