The Nero AG (until 2005 Ahead Software AG ) is a German software company, particularly for its CD and DVD burning suite Nero Burning ROM is known and in this recording software is the global market leader. Company history
In 1995, Ahead Software GmbH was founded by Richard Lesser in Karlsbad, Baden . In 2001 the company was initially converted to Ahead Software AG , which was renamed Nero AG in early 2005 .
The Nero Group includes foreign subsidiaries in Glendale , California, USA ( Nero Inc. , founded 2001), in Yokohama / Japan ( Nero KK , founded 2004) and in Hangzhou / China ( Nero Ltd. , founded 2007). While the US and Japan are sales companies, the Chinese subsidiary only provides internal development services.
In May 2007 it became known that the Luxembourg Agrippina International SàrL holds more than 25% of the shares in Nero AG. Agrippina the Younger was the mother of the Roman emperor Nero , after whom the software Nero Burning ROM and later the stock corporation were named. Nero is said to have commanded the Great Fire of Rome .
In 2009, two further group subsidiaries were founded in Germany: Nero Development and Services GmbH and Nero EMEA Sales GmbH .
In 2014, the company headquarters of Nero AG and the two group subsidiaries Nero Development and Services GmbH and Nero EMEA Sales GmbH were relocated to Karlsruhe.
Products
According to the company, the former one-product company for application software for burners has grown into the "market leader in digital media technology" - which has a diverse range of products. In addition to direct sales, Nero products are installed by various hardware manufacturers on PCs, hard drives, camcorders and other devices before delivery. In addition, companies use multimedia codecs, SDKs and programming interfaces from the company.
In 2008 Nero's product range expanded significantly for the first time beyond the well-known burning software. With Nero Move it , users could transfer photos, videos and music from one device to another or to online communities such as YouTube , MySpace or the company's own multimedia community, My Nero . With the multimedia suite Nero 9 you could create, rip, burn, edit, save, exchange and upload music, video and photo files online. In June 2009, Nero BackitUp & Burn was made available, which backed up, burned and restored data. In addition to BackItUp, Nero also offers other applications for mobile devices. These include MediaHome for managing photo files, Nero AirBurn for wireless burning of files, Nero Streaming Player for streaming photos and videos on the SmartTV and Nero MediaHome WiFi Sync for wireless data synchronization. With Nero 2017, another app came onto the market with Nero KnowHow ; it should serve the user as a digital learning aid with tips and tricks.
Nero Cover Designer (for creating covers), Nero WaveEditor (for editing music files) and Nero SoundTrax (for mixing and digitizing music titles) have not been part of the suite since version 11, but are offered free of charge on the company's website.
Some products in the suite are also available as individual versions for download. These include Nero Burning ROM and Nero Video.
