Nero Burning ROM is a burning program from Nero AG , which is available both as part of the Nero Multimedia Suite program package and as a stand-alone product. It is used to burn and copy optical discs (CDs, DVDs, Blu-rays). The creation of audio CDs also offers many functions. From version 2015 on, the Nero AirBurn app and Nero Burning ROM can also be used to burn media from mobile devices if the mobile device and PC are connected to the same WLAN. With the latest version of Nero Burning ROM 2017 the desire is taken into account for greater security, providing them the Nero SecurDisc 4.0 technology with 256-bit - encryption .

Naming

The name Nero Burning ROM contains a play on words insofar as it describes the function of the program on the one hand ("burns CD-ROMs") and on the other hand alludes to the Roman emperor Nero , who is said to have set the city of Rome on fire . The program icon of Nero Burning ROM shows the burning Colosseum, which is an anachronism since the Colosseum in Rome was only built after the death of Emperor Nero.

Functions

Until version 6 was released, the program was available independently. In versions 6 to 9, it is only included as part of a program package from Nero AG . From version 10, Nero Burning ROM is again available as a separate individual product.

Among other things, Nero Burning ROM enables the creation of:

  • Image files (images) of discs
  • Audio CDs
  • DVD-Video, Blu-ray and AVCHD Video Discs
  • bootable data discs
  • Data discs in ISO and UDF format DVD Video Discs
  • SecurDisc discs

Other functions of the program:

  • Printing of discs with the LightScribe and Labelflash technology
  • Erasing rewritable discs
  • Transfer of tracks from an audio CD in various audio formats to the hard drive
  • Conversion of audio files to other audio formats
  • Secure burning and transfer of optical media with SecurDisc 4.0 thanks to password protection and digital signature

Nero Burning ROM also offers a connection to the Gracenote music database in order to identify audio files.

Newer versions also include the option of inserting media into compilations using the Nero MediaBrowser.

In addition to Nero Burning ROM, Nero 2017 contains the following applications :

  • Nero Recode enables you to save and recode media files and non -copy-protected film DVDs and Blu-Rays.
  • Nero MediaHome is a program for managing and displaying, playing photos, videos and music tracks.
  • Nero Media Browser makes the Nero MediaHome media library available to non-Nero programs via drag & drop
  • Nero Music Recorder ( Platinum version only ): Record audio streams (e.g. Internet radio )
  • Nero Express contains simplified operation of Nero Burning ROM.
  • Nero Video is an authoring program for creating and editing videos.
  • Nero Disc to Device is an easy-to-use application for directly converting video discs and audio CDs to mobile devices or the cloud .

variants

The Nero Burning ROM software is available on the market in various versions. In addition to the full version ( retail ) integrated in Nero 2016 Classic or Nero 2016 Platinum, there is also an independent Nero Burning ROM full version (download only) and different Nero Essentials versions ( OEM versions) that are available as accessories for burners and Complete systems are delivered, but have a lower range of functions.

Others

The standard CD images created by Nero products have the file extension .NRG, but normal ISO images can also be created and burned. When installing Nero products, the installation of a toolbar is also offered by ask.com . The installation of the toolbar must be explicitly deselected.

Versions

Nero is only offered for Windows . A Linux version was also available from 2005–2012, but this was discontinued.

From Nero Burning ROM 2015, Nero AirBurn will be offered as a free app for iOS, Android and Amazon mobile devices. As of version Nero 2016, Nero Streaming Player is offered as a free app for iOS and Android mobile devices. Windows 10 is supported from Nero 2016.
