Media 100 is a term from the IT sector and is used as a name for a company as well as for this company's product series.

Media 100 describes a non-linear HD and SD-capable editing system as a product , which is available as a software version, but also supports various cards (Aja Kona, Blackmagic Design, Matrox). The system with card support (Apple G5 with multi-core processor and built-in card) is mainly used in the broadcast area and is not intended for home users because the requirements on the components are high and therefore expensive. A laptop is sufficient to use the pure software version without additional built-in cards . The Media 100 system only runs on Mac OS X (currently Mountain Lion Ready), but can be run as a “UniversalBinary” on Power and Intel processors. The current version is the Media 100 Suite V.2.1.6 and can be downloaded from the manufacturer as a test and full version. In contrast to earlier versions, this version is no longer delivered in a hardware version (which requires compatible additional cards) and a software version (which cannot use these additional cards), i.e. this version runs as a pure software application also supports the hardware systems.

In the meantime there was also a system for Windows PC known as the 844 / x. This system was used, among other things, for various productions at the television station Arte .

history

Media 100 has been around since 1992, the company was acquired by Optibase around 2004 and has been part of the BorisFX Group since October 2005. BorisFX is known as a manufacturer of additional modules (effects, titling and compositing) and supplies them for a wide variety of editing systems (Adobe After Effects, Avid, Apple Final Cut, Canopus, Sony Vegas). It was only through the integration into BorisFX that the further development of the Media 100 system got going again after it had almost disappeared from the market in Germany. It was one of the first systems that could process HD material without slowing down the workflow through rendering times.

service

The editing system has a simple user interface which even inexperienced users can quickly learn to use. As with other products, there is a timeline , the bins (window with raw material), various tools (audio, color correction, Boris effects ...) and a window each for viewing raw material and compositing . The placement of the windows is freely configurable; if you have two screens at your disposal, you have an advantage. With this editing system, 2K , 3K and 4K material can be cut without any problems. The system supports many codecs (e.g. DVCPRO HD, Apple Pro Res, REDCODE) and has various options for importing and playing out video material. For example, it supports HDV, XDCAM, P2, Export to AfterEffects. Meanwhile, there are also the Universal Binary Codecs of the Media 100, which enable all users to play Media 100 files in any Quicktime application.
