Kino is a free video editing program that is based on GTK + and runs on operating systems such as Linux , FreeBSD and other Unix derivatives. The range of functions of the program is roughly comparable to a 1.x version of Windows Movie Maker ; however, the export functions are more diverse.

With cinema video films, with DV - cameras have been recorded, transferred to the computer, edit it and be encoded. The video can then be transferred to a DVD in MPEG- 2 format, for example. Export to the formats Xvid , Theora , DV and WAV (= audio only) is also supported. On August 5th, 2013 it was announced on the homepage that the project has been discontinued and is no longer being maintained.
