Tiger Electronics is an American toy manufacturer known for its Furby and Giga Pets product lines .

history

The company was founded in 1978 by Randy Rissman and Roger Shiffman. Initially, simple technical devices such as record players were produced, but soon afterwards they devoted themselves to the development of LCD games and educational toys. One of the first great successes was the “Talkboy” voice digitizer , followed by the “Brain Warp”. Tiger also acquired the rights to “Lazer Tag” from Worlds of Wonder .

In 1997 the company released Game.com , the first internet-enabled handheld console.

In 1998, Tiger Electronics was bought by the toy manufacturer Hasbro . Hasbro had hardly developed any electronic toys until then, but was interested in Furby's development . With Hasbro's support, Tiger was able to develop Furby quickly and bring it to market for the 1998 holiday season with great success - Furby became the most popular toy in 1998 and 1999.

With the "Giga Pets", Tiger also launched a series of electronic virtual pets to compete with the Japanese Tamagotchis .

Since then, Tiger Electronics has been one of the most important manufacturers of electronic toys and has received licenses to produce toys for Star Wars , Barney , Arthur, Winnie the Pooh , Franklin the Turtle, Neopets , and Wheel of Fortune , among others .

In 2000, Tiger acquired the license to manufacture electronics with the Yahoo! -Label, including digital cameras , webcams and a "Hits Downloader" for downloading music for Tiger's "Hit-Clips" player.

The ongoing development of Furby technology led to the development and publication of the “FurReal” series in 2003.
