The ritual - Under the spell of evil (Original title: Ritual ) is an American horror film from 2001 . Directed by Avi Nesher , who wrote the script with Rob Cohen . The plot uses motifs from the horror film I Followed a Zombie by Jacques Tourneur from 1943.

action

The doctor Alice Dodgson is entrusted with the care of Wesley Claybourne, who lives in Jamaica . Some murders happen in town. Dodgson discovers that the man's illness is caused by voodoo spells his brother uses to harm him. The brother of the plantation owner wants Claybourne to be declared incapable of doing business. Dodgson takes part in some ritual acts, including a dance, in the fight against the supernatural forces.

Reviews

Christopher Null wrote on www.filmcritic.com that the film, conceived as the third part of the same feature film series as Bordello of Blood , was "cute" and "crazy". The viewer doesn't need to be bored.

The lexicon of international films wrote that the film vacillated “indecisively between splatter , satirical elements and romantic drama” and “never reached the density of the original”. His “naive exoticism” seems “rather embarrassing”.

The magazine TV direkt 15/2008 wrote that the film was staged "bungled".
