Shirley Walker

Shirley Walker (born April 10, 1945 in Napa , California , USA ; † November 30, 2006 in Los Angeles ) was an American composer , conductor , pianist and producer.

Life

After studying music at San Francisco State College , she worked with various hotel and jazz bands. She then was a pianist with the Oakland Symphony Orchestra and the Cabrillo Festival Orchestra .

Her film career began as a synthesizer player for the soundtrack for the film Apocalypse Now . She also composed the theme song for the television series Superman and Viper . She worked as a conductor for some of Danny Elfman's film scores , including his Batman film soundtracks, until her director John Carpenter gave her the chance to write, produce and conduct her first own score for a Hollywood film. She then continued to work as a film music composer and wrote the scores for Flucht aus LA (John Carpenter's Escape from LA) and the first three Final Destination films , among other things . She was also responsible for music in the series Space 2063 and in the comedy Der kickende Müllmann .

In 1967 she married Don Walker and they have two sons, Colin (* 1970) and Ian (* 1972). Shirley Walker died on November 30, 2006 at the age of 61 from complications from a brain aneurysm .
