Peter Pan and the Pirates (Original title: Peter Pan and the Pirates ) is an American animated series of the channel Fox , partly in cooperation with the Japanese studio TMS , from the year 1990. It is based on the novella by the Scottish writer J. M. Barrie , the creator the character of Peter Pan . It was first broadcast on German television on November 1, 1992. Another broadcast followed, along with many other cartoons, in the show Bim Bam Bino , from April 3, 1995 to June 30, 1995 on Kabel Eins , and on Trick 7 , on Sunday morning from October 29, 1995 to January 26, 1997 ProSieben .

The producers deliberately chose the title Fox's Peter Pan & the Pirates to emphasize that this is a new and independent series and has complete independence from the other American and best-known version of Peter Pan from Walt Disney Studios and thus avoid any misunderstandings to be able to.

action

The series Peter Pan & the Pirates tells in a new way of the many adventures of Peter Pan, the boy who never grows up. Many other events are shown, not the ones known from the book or other Peter Pan versions, but newly created by the producers of this series. The archenemy Captain Hook and, as the title suggests, the pirate gang play a bigger role here . Like the typical American style, the episodes are shown loosely and are independent of each other, there is no chronology .

characters

Protagonists

  • Peter Pan - the main character of the series and leader of the group , which, along with him, consists of ten children and a fairy. He has dark brown hair and wears it in a ponytail. His clothes are completely brown. Most of the time he is cheerful and very playful. Practically everything is a game for him, he would never miss a fight with his archenemy Hook. Often he acts quite naively and doesn't even see his mistakes and the dire consequences of them. He cannot read, almost forgets every single event very quickly, emphasizing that he is only interested in the adventures that lie ahead for him and the others, the past are no longer important, he leaves them behind. He is also unpredictable and often changes his mood and interests. His special gift, besides flying, is the imitation of voices, whereby he regularly imitates Hook's. Despite his carelessness, he always manages to free himself from the most difficult situations and emerge victorious. He may be a little selfish now and then, but he's not a real egoist. He realizes the danger and worries about his friends.
  • Tinker Bell 'Tink' - a little fairy with fiery red hair. She is Peter's constant companion. Often she, or rather her fairy dust, is needed to save the situation. She is regularly active on the small Monday Island, where many other magical creatures , such as elves, dwarves and trolls, spend their time. In addition, she has more knowledge than Peter and his friends, with whom she advises the others and thus also ensures a happy ending. She has a special interest in Peter and would like to have him all to himself, which is why she often becomes jealous of Wendy. Still, she undoubtedly embodies the good and would never let anything happen to either Wendy or anyone else.
  • Wendy Darling - the only girl in the group (people) and the eldest of the Darling children, her younger brothers are John and Michael. She has short black hair, wears a pink dress and a white wreath of flowers. She is like a mother to the boys and tells them bedtime stories . Very caring and caring, she ensures order in the underground house. Usually she is closer to Peter than the other children.
  • John Darling - the middle child of the Darling family. He has hazel blonde hair and is wearing a brown felt hat. He is intelligent, spends most of everyone else's time reading books, and is often active. He shares the bed with the lost boys and fights the pirates in the same way they do. He doesn't even use his mind anymore and stay away from the dangers.
  • Michael Darling - the youngest of the Darling children, the little brother of Wendy and John. He has curly light brown hair and wears light blue to azure colored overalls. As the baby of the family , Peter, Wendy and the others often have to be more considerate of him. Even so, he doesn't like being passive and doing nothing. Just like his older friends, it is very important for him to (actively) participate in Peter's adventures. He has his own bed, consisting of a basket the same size as his.
  • The Lost Boys - a group of six orphaned boys allied with Peter Pan. They only remember their life in Neverland and all wear hats that were once the heads of wild animals and are only removed in rare special cases.
    • Nibs - the oldest of the lost boys. He has golden blonde hair and is wearing a brown bear cap . He is Peter's deputy (English second-in-command ), whereby he has the command after this and is the leader of the lost boys. Since he has the greatest sense of responsibility, he is also best suited for this role.
    • Slightly - the tallest and second oldest of the lost boys. He has pale skin, honey-blonde hair and a large cap in the shape of a parrot's head . He wishes to be Peter's deputy, but for which he is not at all suitable. Often he is naive and a little clumsy, which usually leads to difficulties. Even so, he is very important to his friends, if he needs help, they are there for him. Peter and the others are his family.
    • Curly - a prodigal boy in a tiger hat , middle age (Nibs and Slightly are older and the twins and Tootles are younger). He has light brown skin and caramel brown hair. He likes to have fun and is often gullible. But it is important for him to show that he is independent and courageous.
    • The twins - two very different boys: one is taller, dark-skinned and has black curly hair. The other is about a head shorter, fair-skinned, with red straight hair. Both wear leopard hats . The two are never apart and practically do everything together. They are talented mechanics and inventors , all the machines and other devices that Peter and the others use come from the twins.
    • Tootles - the youngest of the lost boys. He is small and chubby, wears a large panda hat, and has a black spot around his left eye to emphasize this animal more clearly. Every now and then he is a little clumsy and a little slow, which means that the others don't always like him with them. Most of the time, however, he is active and able to adapt and assert himself even in the most difficult situations.

Antagonists

  • Captain James Hook - the main antagonist and archenemy of Peter. He is the head of the pirate gang. He is very tall and strong, wears a curly white wig, his right hand is missing, instead he has a sharp iron hook. His main goal is to get rid of Peter Pan, because only in this way can he, in his opinion, become happy, fulfill the main purpose of his life and be able to realize other desires and dreams.
  • Smee - the boatswain on the Jolly Roger, of Irish origin. He is quite small, but slim, has oval-shaped pale blue eyes, gray hair and a distinct beard. Of the rest of the crew, he's closest to Hook. His special characteristic is clumsiness, the captain always calls him a huge fool, which he accepts as a compliment. His weapon is a crooked sword called Johnny Corkscrew.
  • The remaining pirates :
    • Robert Mullins - a very talented pirate. He is good at sword fighting and an ideal leader. He is medium in size and muscular with a scar on his left eye. He prefers to spend his time on the "shaky" ship than on land, because unlike with seasick people , he gets dizzy and nauseous with solid ground under his feet. Unfortunately, this is a very big weakness, which disqualifies him as a leader.
    • Billy Jukes - a dark-skinned pirate and the youngest of the crew. He is in charge of the cannons , which is why he is never far from Long Tom cannon and also a gifted mechanic and inventor, which means that there is no conflict even between himself and the twins.
    • Ignatious Starkey - a distinguished gentleman. As a fighting style, he prefers fencing .
    • Alf Mason - the carpenter on the ship. He is tall and very muscular.
    • Cookson - the cook on the Jolly Roger. He's pretty short, bald, and fat.

More figures

  • The crocodile - a huge reptile (in the original) female sex that has its home in a gloomy cave in Neverland. As in Barrie's novella, she has already eaten Hook's right hand and when hunting for her prey, this is her prey in the first place. Inside it is a clock that ticks all the time and thus reveals its presence to the other beings.
  • The Indians - a tribe of the redskins who have established their village in Neverland.
    • Giant Big Little Panther (Eng. Great Big Little Panther ) - the chief of the Indians. He is very tall and wears panther fur . He often gives Peter and the others important hints and advice.
    • Tigerlily - the chief's daughter. She is a regular part of Peter's adventures.
    • Hard-to-meet (. Tight hard-to-hit ) - the chief's son and brother of Tigerlily. He is very active and can handle Indian weapons well.
  • The Mermaids - a group of young women who are half human and half fish. Their home is in the Mermaid Lagoon, where no one is welcome except for Peter. They are very vain, like to collect objects from the mainland and the surface and often play tricks on people.
    • Shrink Fin - a mermaid with pale green skin, a crooked tail and a mustache. She was once a beauty until she was disfigured in an experiment. She owns an underwater cart pulled by two large seahorses . Unlike the other mermaids, she is not only friendly to Peter, but also to his friends.
