Monika Barth (* 1945 in Osterburg / Altmark ) is a German actress and photographer .

Life

Education and theater

Monika Barth grew up in Bremen . In 1962/63 she spent an AFS exchange year in Atherton / Palo Alto , California, during her school years . After graduating from high school, she began studying theater studies , art history and philosophy at the Free University of Berlin , which she dropped out to become an actress.

She completed her acting training from 1964 to 1967 at the Tamara Stiebner drama school in Berlin . She had several permanent engagements at the theater, such as the Tribüne Berlin (1966–1967), the Landesbühne Rheinland-Pfalz (1967–1968), the Stadttheater Aachen (1968–1969), the State Theater Wiesbaden (1969–1973), and the State Theater Stuttgart (1973–1975) and at the Wuppertaler Bühnen (1975–1976). Among others, Karl-Heinz Stroux and Oskar Fritz Schuh were among their directors at the theater.

From 1977 she worked as a freelance actress with guest engagements and piece contracts, initially at the Schauspielhaus Bochum (1977) and at the Freie Volksbühne Berlin (1978). In 1979 she appeared at the Düsseldorfer Schauspielhaus as Dorine in Tartuffe (director: Volker Hesse ). In 1981 she played Christine Linde in Nora at the Bremen Theater in a production by Arno Wüstenhöfer .

From the end of the 1980s, Barth appeared primarily on Hamburg theaters ( Theater im Zimmer , Thalia Theater , later also at the Altona Theater ) and in independent theater groups and theater projects.

In 1994 she played Queen Elisabeth in Richard III at the Berlin Schloßparktheater . directed by Heribert Sasse . In 1998 she appeared as Annie in the thriller Misery at the Stadttheater Lüneburg .

In 2003 she played the Electress in The Prince of Homburg at the Bad Hersfeld Festival (director: Holger Berg ). In 2008 she was Ms. Marthe Rull in Der zerbrochne Krug (director: Martin Kreidt ) at the Theater der Altmark in Stendal . 2009 appeared at the Ettlingen Castle Festival . In July 2013 she appeared, alternating with Dagmar Biener , at the Schlossparktheater Berlin in the role of Harriet Plimshead, a friend of the lovely Mrs. Wilberforth, in Ladykillers (by Elke Körver and Maria Caleita , based on the script by William Rose ).

Monika Barth was engaged at numerous other stages in Germany and Austria , for example at the Schauspielhaus Graz and at the stages of the city of Cologne and also made guest appearances at the Salzburg Festival . She toured Austria and Switzerland . Since 2015 she has also been part of the ensemble of the Württemberg State Theater Esslingen .

Film, television and dubbing

Monika Barth took part in over 40 cinema and TV productions, where she was mostly used as a concise supporting actress. She often took part in television series that were produced by Norddeutscher Rundfunk or shot in Hamburg. She played u. a. directed by Uwe Frießner , Christian Görlitz , Verena S. Freytag , André Erkau , Angelina Maccarone , Till Franzen , Susanna Salonen and Andreas Kleinert . Her partners included well-known cinema and television actors such as Jürgen Vogel , Marek Erhardt , Beatrice Richter , Wotan Wilke Möhring and Matthias Koeberlin .

In the crime scene: Erntedank e. V. (first broadcast: March 2008) she embodied, at the side of Maria Furtwängler (as Commissioner Charlotte Lindholm ), the allotment gardener and arbor owner Mrs. Schröder. In the Kiel crime scene: Borowski and the luck of others (first broadcast: March 2019) she was the "Lotto-Erna".

She also had guest appearances a. a. in the television series Da geht Kalle (2009, as school secretary Buschmann), SOKO Wismar (2010, as a member of a "pensioner gang"), Großstadtrevier (2016, as house owner Margit Wohllebe) and Morden im Norden (2018, as senior citizen Elli Wenzel, victim of a violent crime after discovering a young woman held in prison).

Monika Barth also worked several times as an advertising actress. She worked u. a. in commercials and branded films by Dr. Oetker , Deutsche Bank and the REWE Group . She worked as a radio play speaker and read audio books.

As a voice actress she lent her voice to Myrna Loy , Marilyn Monroe (in several age-related re-dubs), Mariel Hemingway , Isabelle Huppert , Amy Irving and Miranda Richardson .

Doctor and photographer

From 1980, Monika Barth began studying medicine in Düsseldorf alongside her artistic work , after having received a place at the university through the so-called "senior citizen quota". She also received her license to practice medicine in Düsseldorf . As a doctor, she worked at the dermatology clinic of the Sauerbruch Clinic in Wuppertal and later for several years, repeatedly between her engagements as an actress in an internal lung specialist practice in Hamburg-Eimsbüttel .

During a trip to Cuba in 2008, Monika Barth, who has always enjoyed photography, discovered her interest in digital travel and street photography . This was followed by a trip to North Vietnam and photographic excursions to the USA ( New York City , Connecticut ), western Turkey , Morocco , London , the North Sea , Papua New Guinea , Venice and Namibia . She visited u. a. Work shops at Anders Petersen and Antoine d'Agatha . In 2017 she had her first solo exhibition in Paris . With her photographic work »Mona L.« she was on the shortlist of the "Kolga Tbilisi Photo Awards" in 2018.

Private

Monika Barth has been married to her long-term partner, the musician, composer and conductor Tassilo Jelde (* 1943), whom she met during her engagement in Wiesbaden , since September 2003 . She has lived in Seevetal - Helmstorf since the late 1980s .
