The Secret of the Moon Princess is a fantasy film from 2008 and is based on the book The Little White Horse (originally The Little White Horse ) by the English writer Elizabeth Goudge . The film was shot in Hungary by Gabor Csupo , the director from Brücke nach Terabithia .

action

When Maria Merryweather's father dies, he leaves her only a mysterious book. As an orphan, Maria has to leave her father's house and, accompanied by her governess Miss Heliotrope, is taken in by her eccentric uncle Sir Benjamin on his mysterious country estate in Moonacre. Sir Benjamin is not ready to give her explanations for her many questions about inexplicable things in the castle and the area, so Mary seeks help in her father's book. This is about the centuries-old feud between the Merryweathers and the De Noir family, which concerns the possession or whereabouts of the moon princess' magical pearls. Maria meets Loveday, who lives hidden in the forest and - as it turns out later - belongs to the De Noirs. As Maria reads the story on, she finally realizes that only she can lift the ancient curse as she is the new moon princess. There is not much time because the curse will be fulfilled on the 5000th full moon after the start of the dispute between the families: If the pearls are not returned by then, the whole area will sink into the sea. Maria realizes that she can only achieve success with the help of the De Noirs and turns to Robin, the youngest descendant of the De Noirs. After some hesitation, he is finally ready to help her and to rebel against his father, the Cœur De Noir. Loveday, who was Sir Benjamin's mistress and disappeared after an argument with him, is also on her side. They manage to find the pearls on time and return them.
