Elizabeth Goudge
Elizabeth Goudge (born April 24, 1900 in Wells , Somerset , † April 1, 1984 in Rotherfield Peppard) was an English writer. She was best known for the children's book The Little White Horse .
Life
After she was born in Wells , England , she moved to Ely with her family . When her father, Henry Leighton Goudge, was appointed Regius Professor of Divinity at the Oxford Christ Church College in 1923 , she followed her parents to Oxford . As a freelance writer, she lived in seclusion in Rotherfield , Oxfordshire from 1966 until her death .

After her first book The Fairies' Baby and Other Stories was not very successful in 1919, she only published her second work in 1934 with Island Magic (German: Inselzauber ). In 1946 she was awarded the traditional Carnegie Medal for The Little White Horse . The book was filmed in 1994 under the title Moonacre for British television; the newer theatrical version premiered in 2008 under the title The Secret of Moon Princess ( The Secret of Moonacre ). The 1944 novel Green Dolphin Country was also filmed as Green Dolphin Street and won an Oscar for special effects in 1947 .
