action

Charles Brady and his mother Mary are sleepwalkers - a kind of metamorphic vampire who sucks the life force from their virgin victims. Although normally human, they can consciously change their appearance to bipedal werecats of human size. They also appear to be more resilient than humans and have telekinetic powers. Mary and Charles also have an incestuous relationship.

Charles and Mary settled in Indiana after leaving Bodega Bay , California , where they used the pseudonyms Martha and Carl Brodie after they suckled a girl there. Charles attends the local high school and meets Tanya Robertson in a creative writing class. Tanya does not question the real reason Charles desires her - to give her life force to his mother, who is already half-starved. At first it seems that Charles has fallen in love with Tanya - much to the displeasure of his jealous mother. However, on their first date, a picnic in the nearby cemetery, Charles tries to suck out her life force by kissing her. Tanya tries everything to dissuade Charles from killing her, e.g. For example, hitting his head with her camera, scratching his face, and even drilling a corkscrew into his left eye.

When this happens, a deputy sheriff who has previously tried to convict Charles for speeding and overtaking a stopped school bus drives past the cemetery and recognizes Charles' car. When Tanya runs to him for help, Charles attacks him and kills him. He then wants to continue his vitality sapping session with Tanya, but the sheriff's cat, Clovis, seizes the opportunity and almost kills Charles by scratching his face and chest. (It is never explained what dislike cats have for sleepwalkers, but unlike humans, they can see what they really are. Therefore, sleepwalkers are portrayed as figures who are afraid of common house cats.) Difficult by Clovis Wounded and crippled, Charles stumbles home to Mary. Mary can make both of them invisible, which saves Charles from being arrested by the police who arrive shortly afterwards.

Now Mary wants to take revenge on the Robertson, kills three policemen and injures Tanya's parents seriously. She kidnaps Tanya and takes her to her home, where Charles died at the time. However, Mary resurrects him and Charles tries again to steal the girl's life force. However, Tanya stabs his eyes with her fingers, killing him for good. Tanya manages to escape with the help of the sheriff, who is later staked from the pickets that surround Mary's house. Some of the cats that gathered around the house during these events are now attacking Mary under the direction of Clovis, clinging to her until she goes up in flames, killing her. The film ends with a shot of Mary, who is burning in her driveway.

Reviews

"More disgusting than a creepy staged horror film that clumsily plagiarized its predecessors."

"The 'Cat People' variation was Stephen King's first original screenplay and is way behind the class of his novels."
