William Glenn Shadix (born April 15, 1952 in Bessemer , Alabama , † September 7, 2010 in Birmingham , Alabama) was an American film actor .

Life

Shadix began his career as a stage actor in the 1970s. After Shadix was noticed by the director Tim Burton in the mid-1980s in a play in which he played the writer Gertrude Stein in a "rock role" , he hired him as an actor for the horror comedy Beetlejuice , in which Shadix the eccentric, always dressed in black Real estate agent embodied Otho. It was this film that gave Shadix his breakthrough as an actor.

Shadix has been cast frequently for his impressive baritone voice, corpulence and ability to charge in a convincing manner . His films include Heathers , Dunston - Alone in the Hotel and Demolition Man . There are also numerous roles as voice actors for cartoon productions such as the Teen Titans series .

He worked with Tim Burton several times in the course of his career, for example as a voice actor for the stop-motion feature film The Nightmare before Christmas (1993) and for the web series Stainboy (2000). He was also involved in the computer game sequel The Nightmare before Christmas: Oogie's Revenge (2004). In the TV special In the Director's Chair: The Man Who Invented Edward Scissorhands (1990) Shadix embodied a threatening clown in a fictitious biographical review of Burton's childhood. In Planet of the Apes (2001) he played a decadent orangutan senator.

Shadix was openly gay . After a serious illness, Shadix had to undergo gastric bypass in April 2000 , which led to a weight loss of over 50 kilograms. On the morning of September 7, 2010, Glenn Shadix, now in a wheelchair, fell seriously and died as a result of the head injuries he sustained.
