Bill Justice

William "Bill" Justice (* 9. February 1914 in Dayton , Ohio ; † 10. February 2011 in Santa Monica , California ) was an American animator who from 1937 to 1979 in the course of 42 years for the Walt Disney Company worked .

Life

He attended the John Herron Art Institute until 1935 , which is now part of Indiana University in Indianapolis. In 1937 he was employed by Walt Disney , in the following years he worked on films such as Fantasia (1940), Bambi (1942), Alice in Wonderland (1951) and Peter Pan (1953). In Bambi he was responsible for the animation of the rabbit knocker (English: Thumper ). Even the little squirrels and burrows come from his pen.

As a director, he directed several short films, especially in the 1940s and 1950s, including The Grain That Built a Hemisphere from 1943.

From the 1950s he worked as a director on various animated films , three of which were nominated for an Oscar , but not awarded. From 1965 he devoted himself to the attractions of his employer's theme parks . He retired in 1979 and lived in Granada Hills, California with his wife Kim. With Justice for Disney he has published a book about his work at Disney and last lived in a retirement home where he died of natural causes. He leaves behind a daughter and a granddaughter .
