Peter Ellenshaw

Peter Ellenshaw (born May 24, 1913 in London , † February 13, 2007 in Santa Barbara , California ; actually William Samuel Ellenshaw ) was a British painter and draftsman for feature films .

Life

Peter Ellenshaw was the art director of numerous Walt Disney films and often painted the backgrounds, so-called matte paintings . His first major work was the film What Will Come (1936). From 1948 he worked for Disney; his first film there was Treasure Island .

Ellenshaw was nominated four times in his career for the Oscar , which he won for the film Mary Poppins (1964). When he retired from the Walt Disney Company in 1993, he went down in the company's history as the “ Disney Legend ”.

His son Harrison Ellenshaw (actually Peter Samuel Ellenshaw , * 1945) also worked as a matte painter.
