The Herz-Jesu-Kirche in Sangerhausen is a catholic brick church in neo-Gothic style, which was consecrated in 1894.

The church contains stained glass by Charles Crodel from 1961 (three choir windows, two side windows and a round window in the St. Jutta Chapel).

history

With the introduction of the Reformation in 1539, Sangerhausen became Evangelical-Lutheran. On September 29, 1892 the foundation stone was laid for the Sacred Heart Church, which was built according to plans by Arnold Güldenpfennig . On May 29, 1894, the church was consecrated by Bishop Hubert Theophil Simar from the diocese of Paderborn .

Renovation 2007

In 2007 the Herz-Jesu Church was extensively renovated and redesigned. This affected the chancel, the nave and the outer facade. The altar , the ambo and the stele of the tabernacle were artistically renewed. Existing material was redesigned. The three choir windows were renovated and protected by an additional layer of glass. The entire interior plaster was replaced by a new layer and the original color of the interior was restored. The former baptistery was converted into the St. Jutta Chapel.

local community

On April 14, 1900, the deed of establishment of the community was announced on Easter Sunday. With this, the previous mission parish was appointed an ordinary parish through a letter from Paderborn.

Communities Sangerhausen , Allstedt , Roßla and Stolberg (Harz) was, went on May 2, 2010 in Sangerhausen the Catholic parish of St. Jutta indicate the main church, the Sacred Heart Church and the name of the Blessed Jutta von Sangerhausen carries. The parish of St. Jutta belongs to the deanery Merseburg and thus to the diocese of Magdeburg .
