Eric Larson
Eric Cleon Larson (born September 3, 1905 in Cleveland , Utah , † October 25, 1988 in La Cañada Flintridge , California ) was an American animator and one of Disney's Nine Old Men .
Life
Eric Larson was born in Cleveland in 1905. After high school, he studied journalism at the University of Utah . There he gained his first experience as editor of the campus magazine and sketch artist for the newspaper Deseret News . He then traveled through America as a freelancer and worked for various newspapers before coming to Los Angeles in 1933.
First he developed the serial The Trail of the Viking for the local broadcaster KHJ Radio , before sending some of his designs to Walt Disney Studios following a recommendation by a friend and being hired as an assistant animator.
In the following years he worked on numerous short and feature films as well as television series for Disney. In his last years he worked as an animation consultant for younger animators and looked for new talents for the studio as a scout at art schools.
After 52 years at Disney, he retired in 1986. He died on October 25, 1988 in La Cañada Flintridge, California.
In 1989 he was posthumously awarded the Disney Legends Prize.
