Buddy Hackett

Buddy Hackett (born August 31, 1924 in Brooklyn , New York City , † June 30, 2003 in Malibu , California ), actually Leonard Hacker , was an American comedian and actor .

Life

Hackett attended high school where he played on the American football team. He began to be interested in acting during his school days and staged a school performance. During World War II , he served in the United States Army in an air defense unit. After his return from the military, he began to study acting and initially appeared unsuccessfully as a comedian in a nightclub in Brooklyn. After he was much more successful in Los Angeles , he got his first engagements as a comedian in Las Vegas in 1952 , where he became one of the most successful comedians of his time.

In 1954 he appeared for the first time on Broadway , in the 1960s he had further engagements in musicals and revues . Outside the United States, Hackett gained notoriety for his role in A Totally, Totally Crazy World and as the mechanic Tennessee Steinmetz in A Great Beetle , the first Disney production in the Herbie film series. In his later career, he guest-starred on television series such as Love Boat , Murder is Her Hobby and Sabrina - Totally Verhext! on. In 1999 he had a recurring role in the series Action , which was discontinued after 13 episodes. He also worked as a voice actor in the Disney production Arielle, the Mermaid and its sequel from 2000.

Hackett was married and had three children.
