Tutti Camarata

Salvatore "Tutti" or "Toots" Camarata (born May 11, 1913 in Glen Ridge , New Jersey , † April 20, 2005 in Burbank , California ) was an American jazz trumpeter , band leader , arranger , composer and music producer .

Live and act

Camarata began his career as a trumpeter with Jimmy and Tommy Dorsey and Benny Goodman ; eventually he became lead trumpeter and arranger for Jimmy Dorsey. He also arranged for Glen Gray and his Casa Loma Orchestra , Benny Goodman, Louis Armstrong , Bing Crosby , Billie Holiday , Ella Fitzgerald and Duke Ellington . He also orchestrated a recording session for violinist Jascha Heifetz . In 1944 he worked for the British Decca and helped found London Records . He orchestrated classical music recording sessions by Puccini , Verdi , Bach , Bizet , Tchaikovsky and Rachmaninov . In the 1940s he worked as a musical arranger for Jean Sablon Show on the Columbia Broadcasting System Radio Network with accordionist John Serry senior . In 1956 he moved to Walt Disney , for whom he served the Disney Records label and until 1972 as its musical director and producer, mostly of musicals , easy listening and children's records. For Disney he presented the jazz album Tutti's Trumpets under his own name in 1957 , on which u. a. Conrad Gozzo , Manny Klein , Pete Candoli , Shorty Sherock and Uan Rasey participated. In 1958 he built the Sunset Sound Recorders studio complex for Disney, where he produced over 300 albums, including a. by George Bruns . Camarata has also served as the musical director of various television series and shows such as Startime, The Vic Damone Show and The Alcoa Hour . In 1981 he acquired The Sound Factory studio , where artists such as Linda Ronstadt , Ringo Starr , Dolly Parton , Oingo Boingo , Brian Wilson , The Jackson Five , Red Hot Chili Peppers , Lostprophets and The Vines recorded.

In 2003 he was awarded the Disney Legends Award.
