Shorty Sherock
Clarence Francis "Shorty" Sherock (* 17th November 1915 in Minneapolis ; † 19th February 1980 in Northridge , Los Angeles , California ) was an American jazz - trumpet player of Swing .
Shorty Sherock studied cornet as a child and served at the Illinois Military Academy. His professional career as a musician began in 1936 in Ben Pollack's band , before he became a soloist in Jimmy Dorsey's orchestra in 1937 , of which he was a member until 1939. In the early 1940s he played with Bob Crosby , Tommy Dorsey , Horace Heidt , Alvino Rey , Raymond Scott and in Gene Krupa's orchestra , together with saxophonist Sam Donahue . Sherock was also a soloist in the first Jazz at the Philharmonic (JATP) concert, hosted by Norman Granz , which took place in Los Angeles in 1944. a. and Illinois Jacquet , Jack McVea , JJ Johnson , Nat King Cole and Les Paul occurred. In that year he also worked u. a. with Nappy Lamare , Barney Bigard and Nick Fatool in the Capitol Jazzmen :
From 1945 he had his own formation; In January 1946 Shorty Sherock recorded Leonard Feathers composition "Snafi" under his own name . on. In 1950 he returned to Jimmy Dorsey and was a member of his Dorseylanders . In 1955 he played for Freddie Slack's Boogie Woogie on the 88 (incorrectly dubbed Shorty Sherlock ) three tracks arranged by Benny Carter . As a member of the Nelson Riddle Orchestra, he worked on Dean Martin's album This Time I'm Swingin '! along with many of Ella Fitzgerald's recordings , such as her album Get Happy! (1959) and Ella Swings Brightly with Nelson and Ella Swings Gently with Nelson from 1962, Ella Fitzgerald Sings the Jerome Kern Songbook (1963) and Ella Fitzgerald Sings the Johnny Mercer Songbook (1964). He also worked with Benny Carter ( Opening Blues , 1962). With Nelson he accompanied Frank Sinatra on his album Sinatra Sings Days of Wine and Roses, Moon River, and Other Academy Award Winners in 1964 and worked as a studio musician in Los Angeles for television and radio productions in the 1960s.
