Nappy Lamare
Nappy Lamare (born June 14, 1907 in New Orleans as Hilton Napoleon Lamare , † May 8, 1988 in Santa Clarita ) was an American jazz musician ( banjo , guitar , vocals ).
Live and act
Lamare began his musical career in New Orleans with the Midnight Serenaders , but also worked with Monk Hazel , Johnny Wiggs , Sharkey Bonano and Ray Bauduc . Lamare is probably best known for his work with the band of Ben Pollack (between 1930-1935) and with the band of Bob Crosby (1935-1943). He then played with Julia Lee , with whom he had a hit in the R&B charts in 1947 with "Gotta Gimme Whatcha Out", # 3) . In 1947 he became a partner in Club 47 in Los Angeles , and in 1948 he worked for Johnny Dodds . In 1950 Lamare had a TV show with his band, the Straw Hat Strutters , and then toured with the band for five years. He then led the Riverboat Dandies with Ray Bauduc . After a car accident in the 1960s, he had to take a break from work but remained active. He toured with The World's Greatest Jazz Band in the 1970s and came to Europe with Bob Crosby. Lamare died in Newhall , a suburb of Santa Clarita .
