Andreas Deja (born April 1, 1957 in Danzig ) is a German - American animator of Polish origin.

Life

Born in Gdansk in 1957, Deja grew up in Dinslaken in 1958 . At the age of 10, Deja wrote to the Walt Disney Company and received advice on training as an animator in response. After completing his graphic studies at the Folkwang Hochschule in Essen , he reapplied 15 years later, was invited to do a test drawing and has worked for Disney Studios ever since.

His work for Walt Disney Productions includes his contributions to the films Taran and the Magic Cauldron (1985), Basil the Great Mouse Detective (1986), Ariel, the Mermaid (1989) and The Prince and the Begging Boy (1990). In 1988 he drew various trick sequences for the film Wrong Game with Roger Rabbit . He was chief draftsman for the films Beauty and the Beast (1991), Aladdin (1992), The Lion King (1994), Hercules (1997) and Lilo & Stitch (2002), among others .

Deja has been a member of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences since 1987 and thus a member of the jury for the awarding of the Oscars . In February 2007, he was awarded the Winsor McCay Award of the Annie Awards .

Deja is openly gay . His sexual orientation has at times been discussed in relation to the development of some Disney characters.
