Los Olivos (pronunciation: loʊs ˈoʊlivəs ) is a Unincorporated Place in Santa Barbara County , California . Around 1000 people live in the settlement and its immediate vicinity. Los Olivos is one of the five settlements in the Santa Ynez Valley .

history

Around 1880 a two-story house with a porch was built north of Ballard on Alamo Pintado Creek . Albany native Alden March Boyd bought the house, including 157 acres of land around the house, for $ 8,000. He planted 5000 olive trees on the acquired land and named the settlement Rancho de los Olivos . The nearby place was named after this ranch, first El Olivar , then El Olivos and finally Los Olivos . In 1934 the narrow-gauge railway was stopped.

There are many wineries in Los Olivos . The place is also the southern starting point of the Foxen Canyon Wine Trail .

Approx. 14 km south of Los Olivos is the Rancho del Cielo of former US President Ronald Reagan , while about eight kilometers north of the town, the Neverland ranch of Michael Jackson is.

In the film Return to Mayberry , Los Olivos was used as the backdrop for the fictional location Mayberry . Various scenes from the film Sideways were also shot in the location. Los Olivos also appeared in an episode of the soap opera California Clan .
