Santa Ynez is a census-designated place in Santa Barbara County , California . Santa Ynez (named after Saint Agnes ) is one of the five settlements in the Santa Ynez Valley . According to the 2010 census, 4,428 people live in the settlement .

population

The Santa Ynez Valley was populated early on by the Chumash Indians , who today have their last reservation in Santa Ynez. As of the 2010 census, Santa Ynez is 85.9 percent white , 14.5 percent Latin American ( Latinos ), 5.3 percent Native , 1.2 percent Asian and 0.3 percent African American . The number of households was 1,741 while the median age of the population was 47.8 years, which is higher than the California average. For every 100 women there were 96.3 men.

economy

As in all of the Santa Ynez Valley, Santa Ynez is mainly viticulture .

The Chumash also operate the Chumash Casino on their reservation , which is interesting for tourists not only because of gambling , but also because of larger events (e.g. boxing matches ).

Santa Ynez Valley Public Airport is two kilometers southeast of the city .
