John Dehner (born November 23, 1915 in Staten Island , New York as John Forkum , † February 4, 1992 in Santa Barbara , California ) was an American actor who appeared in nearly 300 international film and film shows between 1941 and 1988 TV productions stood in front of the camera. life and career

John Dehner, born in 1915 in Staten Island, New York State, was a busy and sought-after actor in his nearly 50-year film career. Starting as an animator assistant at Walt Disney Studios , Dehner also worked as a professional pianist , army publicist and journalist at the beginning of his career .

However, he did not make his breakthrough as a popular actor until the beginning of the 1950s as a die-hard Westerner, a part that he varied over the years in countless roles in American cinema. Because of his striking appearance, he was also often cast in the role of villain, which he mastered routinely but with esprit and character. He had prominent appearances in Russell Rouse's Edelwestern The First Bullet Strikes alongside Glenn Ford , in Arthur Penn's film adaptation of Sheriff Pat Garrett in One Must Believe in It alongside Paul Newman , who played Billy the Kid . Also in Anthony Mann's western drama The Western Man with Gary Cooper and Lee J. Cobb .

In Burt Kennedy's western adventure about the Royal Canadian Mounted Police in The Red Squadron , he played the second male lead alongside Robert Ryan .

From 1952 to the late 1980s, he made numerous appearances in episodes of well-known television series such as Die Unbrechlichen , Crooks versus Crooks , A Cage Full of Heroes , Solo for Uncle , Smoking Colts , Cobra, Take Over , Mannix , The Boss , Bonanza , The People from Shiloh Ranch , Petrocelli , The Bad Five , Highway Adventure , in two episodes of Columbo , in Detective Rockford - call , in Quincy or Hawaii Five-Zero .

Dehner worked well into old age. He played his last role in 1988 in three episodes of the US miniseries Firestorm and Ashes as Admiral Ernest King.

John Dehner died on February 4, 1992 at the age of 76 in Santa Barbara, California.
