Samantha lives in a sleepy small town in the state of Kentucky . She is bored of her boyfriend and her life in the little nest. The biggest problem is her own father, who died in the Vietnam War before she was born. She wants to learn more about her father and the war in which he fell and break the wall of silence. Her uncle Emmett, with whom she lives, helps her deal with this issue. Emmett was also at war and is now suffering from mental health problems. Together they try to face the history of the war. First, Samantha finds letters from her father to her mother. After reading it, she continues to urge Emmett to tell her more about the war, which Emmett refuses to do. She separates from her boyfriend and starts an affair with a friend of Emmett's, also a Vietnam veteran, who has no future. She learns of the existence of diaries that her father wrote and that are stored with his parents. She reads them through and Emmett opens up a little and reveals his allegations that he is making himself up for surviving the war. Samantha ends up accepting her mother's offer to live with her and go to college together. Then she, Emmett and her father's mother set off to the Vietnam Veterans Memorial to pay their respects to their father for the first time. All three say goodbye and Emmett takes the opportunity to also say goodbye to his comrades.

Reviews

“A quiet drama with good actors that shows that the persistence of the younger generation can help overcome the taboo subject of Vietnam. Initially unspectacular and personable, then more and more constructed and wooden, so that the inner tension subsides. "
