Imperial Beach is a city in San Diego County in the US state California , with around 26,300 inhabitants ( as of 2010 ). The metropolitan area is 11.7 square kilometers and is located west of Interstate 5 on California State Route 75 , just 4.5 kilometers from Mexico's northwestern border . Imperial Beach has the longest pier in San Diego County at 450 meters.
Almost half of the population are Latinos , followed by a substantial ethnic share of European descent whites who make up more than a third. Other population groups such as African-Americans and Asians are minorities, and accordingly only small percentages of the total population are made up of these ethnic groups.
Imperial Beach was the filming location for the 2007 television series John from Cincinnati .
